175/58–THILATHAIPATHI ( Now this place is called as  CHETHALAPPATHI or THILATHARPANAPURI)

This is the 175th Devaram Paadal petra Shiva Sthalam and  58th sthalam on south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar has sung hymns in praise of KLord Shiva of this temple.

Iraivan: Sri Muktheesar, Sri Mantharavaneswarar
Iraivi   : Sri Sorna valli, Sri Ambiga Porkodinayagi.

Some of the important features of this temple are...

  1. Sri Ram and Lakshman gave thilatharbanam in this temple.
  2. Sri Ram and lakshman with Lingams in the prakaram.
  3. There is no kodimaram. The temple is small but maintained beautifully.
  4. Kumbhabhishekam was conducted about 15 days before.
  5. Raja gopuram was constructed recently with one side normal sudhai sirpangal and other ( inner ) side only flat surface with paintings.
  6. There is a separate temple for Aadhi Vinayagar. This vinayagar is in normal head with good face ( மனித உருவில் ), instead of elephant head face.

This is the 181st Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 64th temple on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha nadu. Thiruganasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

PAADAL PETRA SHIVA STHALANGAL IN AND AROUND KUMBAKONAM - DHARSHAN 2 - DAY 2. 05-08-2012 - SUNDAY

On second day ie 05-08-2012., I covered the left out  three temples  using the public transport. First I went to MARUTHAA NALLUR through Kumbakonam to Mannarkudi bus. After dharshan went to THIRUKALAYANALLUR ( Now this place is called as Sakkottai ) by walk. The Gurukal told me it will be a half km, but it was 2 km from Maruthanallur temple. After dharshan at Thirukalayanallur, Gurukkal dropped me at nearby bus stand to get an auto to SIVAPURAM, which is about 4 KM. The bus facility to this village very limited. The auto driver charged me  Rs 120  and after dharshan he dropped me back at the same place to catch bus to Kumbakonam. The time was around 10.00 when I reached Kumbakonam bus stand. Without preparation I do not want to continue my Yathra further, even though I had the list of Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal, hence returned back to Chennai around 18.00 Hrs, thanking Lord Shiva for the peaceful dharshan of all the temples.    The details and the photographs are as follows.   

186 / 69 – KARUKKUDI ( Now this place is called as  MARUTHA NALLOOR )

This is the 186th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 69th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. 

Iraivan: Sri Karkkudinathar, Sri Bramhapureeswarar, Sri Sarguna

  1. Moolavar is made of mud  by Sri Ram  and hence abhishekam is not done for moolavar. Abhishekam is performed after covering the paanam with a Kavasam. Peedam is of stone.
  2. Karuvarai vimanam is little  taller.
  3. There is no Kodimaram and Rajagopuram.
  4. In Koshtam, Narthana vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar.
  5. In vimanam, veena Dhakshinamoorthy sudhai sirpam to be noticed.
  6. Sanibhagavan is bala saneeswarar.

185 / 68 – THIRUKKALAYANALLUR ( Now this place is called as SAKKOTTAI )

This is the 185th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 68th Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

  1. Sabtha mathakkal in a single stone.

  3. Lingothbhavar made of green stone with Maan and Mazhu,
  4. Arthanaareeswarar.
  5. Dhabas viyammai a pudai sirpam. Standing on right leg folding the left leg and right hand on the head and left hand on the stomach.
  6. Sakyanayanar worshiped Shiva by throwing stone on him.
  7. Ambal facing south, but skewed certain angle towards Lord Shiva.
  8. Sudhai sirpam of Siva Parvathi kalyana kolam in vavval nethi mandapam.
  9. It was believed that when the Amirtha kalayam,  was broken the centre portion of the Kalayam fell in this palce hence this place is called Thirukkalayanallur.
  10. In olden days Agazhi was there around the temple.
  11. It was also believed that due to water in the agazhi people worshiped lord from a distance.

This is the 184th Devaramm Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 67th sthalam on the south of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

  2. It is believed that Shiva Lingams are below the earth in every 1 feet. Hence people do angaprathatchanam in this temple.
  3. Natarajar statue  got back after theft.
  4. Parikara sthalam for Child.
  5. In Pudai sirpam worth to see Thirumal worshiping Lord Shiva in the form of  white pig.
  6. There is no kodimaram
  7. There is a separate small temple for Bairavar in the outer prakaram before Nandhi. The Bairavar is a prarthanai moorthy.

  1. Get down at Pattamani Iyer stop on Kumbakonam to Mannarkudi  route and Sivapuram is via Malaiyappanallur about 4  km from main road.
  2. 2 KM from Sakkottai Velaanmai Virivakka Myam on Kumbakonam to Thiruvarur or Kumbakonam to Mannar Kudi  bus route.

PAADAL PETRA SHIVA STHALANGAL IN AND AROUND KUMBAKONAM - DHARSHAN -2- DAY -1 ( 04-08-2012) SATURDAY

To Increase my score of Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal dharshan, I started my second yathra to Kumbakonam for the left out 18  temples, out of 36 temples  from my original list on  03-08-2012. ( Please refer my previous post ).  Before starting from Chennai I had gone through the web site for the weather report to make sure of visiting the all the left out temples. Reached Kumbakonam on       04-08-2012, 05.00 Hrs. 

After taking bath hired a Taxi, since transport facility is not available frequently for some of the temples. ( Taxi charged me Rs 1800 plus driver batta). Utilizing this opportunity, I want to cover more number of Temples. First day, I was able to cover 16 temples.  Since I had prepared the temples route using the google map, I do not found any difficulty to reach the place,   also driver himself knows 50% of the temple routes. The Details of the temples and the photographs are up loaded are as per the route I followed, From Thiru Nageswaram to Azhakaputtur.  Throughout the day it was cloudy without rain and very hot.  

146 / 29 - THIRU NAAGESWARAM ( Now the place is called as NAAGESWARAM)
This is the 146th Paadal Petra Shiva sthalam and 29th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery. Moovar paadal Petra sthalam.

Some of important features of this temple are.....

  1. Sekkilar with mother, brother statues in the thiruppani mandapam.
  2. Aadhiseshan, Thakan, Kaarkodagan, Gowthamar, Nandhi, Nalan, Paraasarar, Bagirathan worshiped this temple Iraivan.
  3. The rajagopuram is of 5 levels.
  4. Ambal is  made of sudhai in a separate temple and facing east. Only Punuku is applied during Thai Tamil month.
  5. Since it is a Parikara sthalam, lot of people throng to this temple.
  6. The temple was built by Kandarathitha Chozhan.
  7. It is to be noticed that abhishekam milk will turned to blue colour.
  8. All Navagrahas are facing Suryan.

149 / 32 – THIRUNEELAKKUDI ( Now the place is called as THENNILAIKUDI )

This is the 149th Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 32nd stahalam on the south side of river Cauvery. Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

  1. Iraivan is called as Neelakandar, he who drank the poison that came out while churning the Paarkadal.
  2. Vashistar, Kaamadhenu, Devamathar, Markandeyar worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.
  3. No abhishekam is done to Moolavar. All the thailam applied is absorbed in the baanam itself.
  4. Naivedhyam is Jack fruit.
  5. To get rid of fear of death, Erumai and Blue colour pattu cloths are offered to Iraivan.
  6. There are two Ambal sannadhi.

This is the 150th Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 33rd Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar has sung hymans in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

151 / 34 – THIRUNALLAM ( Now this place is called as KONERI RAJAPURAM )

This is the 151st Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 34th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Thiruganasambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. This temple is also called as Natarajar Koil. 


Iraivan: Sri Umamaheswarar, Sri Boominathar
Iraivi   : Sri Angavalanayagi, Sri Thega sundari

Some of the important features of this temple are....
  1. The temple premises is called Thirunallam. Hence it is very difficult to reach the temple by asking the way to the temple from different places. For those who has the mun janma prabtham  only will get the Dharshan and blessings of this temple Lord.
  2. Chozha King ‘s wife Chembiyanmaadevi built this temple ( Built stone structure ).
  3. It is believed that Natarajar is suyambu. The story is while making the a Big Natarajar statue as per the order of the King ( If not the head will be severed ), Lord Shiva and parvathi came and asked for water as old man and old lady. The Sthapathi who is in a tension of making this big statue, said that he has only the molten metal and offered to them, if they want. When Lord and Parvathi drank the molten metal, immediately they stayed as statues. We could see the mole, scar of sword, and Nails beautifully.  Also as per the temple meikavalar and Grukkal we can feel the hair on the statue. For touching was not allowed by the gurukkal.
  4. Saneeswarar has the white cloth.
  5. All the navagrahas are facing Suryan.
  6. Moolavar baanam is little big of 4.5 feet high.
  7. There are three Sandikeswarars.
  8. Iraivan shown the Kalyanakolam to Agasthiyar.
  9. Moolavar is facing west and Ambal isfacing east.
  10. There is no rajagopuram.

  1. Town bus No 22 from Kumbakonam to Vadamattam is passes through the Village Konerirajapuram and the temple Thirunallam is about 500 meters.
  2. On the bus route Kumbakonam to Karaikkal get down at S. Pudur and from there  3 KM is the Koneri rajapuram.

This is the 180th Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 63rd sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.
