28, January 2013
25-01-2013, FRIDAY.
On an official duty I had been to Thirukadaiyur on 25th January 2013. Morning. I had been to the Thirukadaiyir Shiva temple. There was an unusual atmosphere at the temple. When enquired, I was told that the temple elephant Abirami was passed away on 24th night. The routine schedules were rearranged or postponed. The usual 60th and 80th marriages were also not performed till afternoon. But only Pooja was done with out elaborate arrangements.  After worshiping Lord Shiva I had been to THIRUVIDAIKAZHI. Since there was no frequent buses hired an auto and he charged me Rs 200. The total distance was 18 KM up and down.

After worshiping Sri Subramaniyar and Lord Shiva at Thiruvidaikazhi returned back via Thillayadi. At Thillayadi tried to visit THILLAYADI Valliammai mani mandapam, but to my disappointment it was found locked.  I had been to a Shiva Temple at Thillayadi also.

In the afternoon I was free, so decided to visit VAZHUVUR near Mayiladuthurai. When I Reached the temple around 14.30 Hrs the temple was closed after Uchi kaala Pooja and the local people told that the temple will be opened after 16.00. The main door of the temple was opened at 16.00 Hrs but the sanctum door was not opened, since Gurkkal has not turned. Gurukkal came around 18.00 Hours and we had the dharshan of Sri Gajasamkara Moorthy. It was a dream to go to this temple and to see the Urchavamoorhy of Sri Gajasamharamoorthy. ( Similar moortham is available in our office, which is private collection of Dr AC Muthiah. This gives me more desire of going to this temple )

This temple is about 9 KM from Thirukadaiyur and 7 KM from Mayiladuthurai to Nagapattinam main Road.

This Shiva Temple is in Thillaiyadi On the way to Thiruvidaikazhi from Thirukadaiyur. The story of the temple goes like this.

This temple was built by a minister of a king with out the permission of the King. At the same time The King also constructed a temple. When the kumbhabhishekam date of both temple coincides Lord Shiva in Kings dream told that he will be attending to the minister’s temple.

Based on this the king visited the temple and asked the ministers to give the palan of constructing this temple. When the minister refused, the King tried to kill him with his word. Lord shiva  appeared and the sword hit the legs of Shiva  ( crack is shown to me in the Aalinganamoorthy ) in Koshtam.

28, January 2013
After completion of my Official work at Thirukadaiyur on Friday 25-01-2013, thought of spending Saturday and Sunday ( 26-01-2013 & 27-01-2013 ) to visit Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal from Nagapattinam. I had prepared already the list of temples to be visited from Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur.

26-01-2013. SATURDAY. DAY -1.

Early moring, it was too dark when I started my journey from Thirukadaiyur to Nagapattinam. When I reached NAGAPATTINAM, it was around 07.30 Hrs the temple was just opened for dharshan. After dharshan proceeded to SIKKAL. In Sikkal I expected a lot of crowd in Sikkal Singaravelan sannadhi, since one day was left for Thaipoosam function. The crowd was thin than I  expected. Had a good dharshan and reached KEEZHLVELUR which is on the way to Thiruvarur. From there I had been to THEVUR. This is on the way to Thiruthuraipoondi from Keezhlvelur.

My next planned temple visit was Koil Kanrappur. When I enquired, the temple people suggested me to go to VALIVALAM and from there it is easy to go to Kanrappur. After completing my dharshan at Valivalam, understood the kanrappur is about 4 KM from Valivalam and there is no proper bus facility to that village. On seeing disappointment in my face, Temple Gurukkal advised me to take his cycle and leave the same after dharshan.  It was around 14.30 Hrs when I reached Kanrappur and the temple was closed. The Meikavalar on OFF duty ( 15 Days on rotation between two peoples ) advised me to go to ThiruNattiyathankudi first and come back to Kanrapur. It was about 15 KM Journey by cycle and I found very tough. The bag on my back was also pulling me down. The loneliness also discouraged me a lot. Finally I knocked the door of the THIRUNATTIYATHANKUDI Temple. The Gurukkal’s son was kind enough to open the door for me. After dharshan returned back once again to KANRAPPUR and had the dharshan.

After returning the bicycle try to reach THIRUKKAARAYIL via Kachanam before 17.30 Hrs to see the abhishekam for Margaatha lingam. It was too late when I reached. Had the dharshan of Saayaratchai and Arthajaama pooja. Closed my day’s dharshan  and reached Thiruvarur for the night stay.

27-01-2013. SUNDAY. DAY – 2.

As per my schedule there are two temples left out. Unfortunately both are in opposite directions of Thiruvarur. If I left the Thiruppalliyin Mukkoodal I have spent one more day or I have to make one more visit to cover the place. Previous night itself collected the bus availability to PEAREYIL and Thiruppalliyinmukkoodal. It was too early when I reached PEAREYIL and waited for the temple to open. When I contacted Gurukkal over his mobile, he told that he will come only by 11.00 Hrs and also he suggested me to have the dharshan with the help of a maligai shop owner, who has the gates keys. Had the dharshan through the grill from Mahamandapam. Returned to Thiruvarur by motor cycle (in pillion) and bus.

Then I proceeded to THIRUPPALLIYINMUKKOODAL  through Mini bus.  Walked 2 KM  from the main road and reached the temple. Fortunately the Temple was open and  gurukkal was present. Had the dharshan and walked once again to the main road.

It was around 11.30 Hrs when I reached Thiruvarur. Calculated in mind for the next temple’s visit considering the chance of getting bus to Chennai in the evening. ( Due to three days holidays there was heavy rush to Chennai from all the places. It was noticed that Peoples are ready to travel by standing from Thrivarur to Mayiladuthurai and from Mayiladuthurai to Vadalur ). Decided to return back to Chennai and boarded a bus  which started by 12.15 Hrs and reached Chennai around 22.00 Hrs. we had lost about 2 hours at Vadalur due to traffic jam. (Heavy rush as expected at Vadalur Thaipoosam and Jothi dharshan).

Thanks to Lord Shiva for his Dharshan in all the temples and the Gurukkal & meikavalars for helping me for the dharshan.
