SRI PIDARI CHELLIAMMAN ( SELLIAMMAN ) TEMPLE AT DHANDEESWARAM, VELACHERY A CHOZHA PERIOD TEMPLE WHICH LOST IT’S IDENTITY.

O6, November 2015.
Last Sunday on  1st November 2015, I had a chance to worship Sri Pidari Chelliamman of the newly renovated temple at Dhandeeswaram, Velachery.  Many occasions I tried worship, but could not do so due the closure of the temple.  I could not find any old sanctity, since the temple was built like new without keeping any old structure and the inscription were removed and installed on the compound wall. Under stand that the voices of the heritage lovers were gone in to the deaf ears.

In the sanctum also along with Sri Pidari Chelliamman, Vinayagar and Sapathamathakkal are also installed.  The name board Under Selliamman, Sapthamathakkal temple is written within bracket. From the inscriptions found, the Temple was built before Paranthaka Chozhan and DhandeeswararShiva  temple was built  before Sundara Chozhan.  The old original temple must be 1055 years old, as per the leaflet issued by Dhandeeswarar Temple. The Dhandeeswarar temple is just opposite to this temple, about 50 meters distance and the Rajagopuram can be seen.

The Deity : Sri Pidari Chelliamman ( Selliamman )

Old Sapthamathakkal or Saptha kanniyar in the form of stone bricks are kept in the west wall and new navagraha shrine was added during renovation. Dhakshinamurthy is in the niche behind the sanctum.
