NADAI VAAVI – AYYANGARKULAM, NEAR KANCHIPURAM.
This structure was built during Vijayanagara period. This has an entrance arch with steps to  mandapam below the ground level. There is an arrangement to drain out the rain water accumulated  from the underground floor. The mandapa Pillars has  beautiful reliefs.

Sri Varadaraja Swamy  is fond of travelling in and around Kanchipuram to bless his devotees. Every year during Chitra pournami day ( Full moon day ) Perumal used to visit here. The urchavar will be kept in the under ground mandapam for about 5 minutes for pooja. After this Sri Varadaraja Swamy will return back to  Kanchipuram.

The place is called as Thirukachi, Athigiri, Kovil, Vezhamalai. One of the 108 Divya desams in Kanchipuram.

Thayar    : Sri Perundevi Thayar.

Some of the important features of this temple are …
The main sanctum faces west with a 130 feet 7 tier Rajagopuram.  The Vimana under the moolavar is called as punyakoti Vimana, since if you do a punyam it will grow kodi ( crore ) times. The moolavar is in the first level with a beautiful smiling face. The urchavar is in  the glass mandapam with fire wound scars on his face. It was told that the scars are due to, Perumal came from the fire of Yagna performed by Brahma. The main sanctum  is called as hill, Athigiri, since Moolavar is on an elevated level of 10 meters with 24 steps.

There is another Devarajaswamy’s idol made of Athi wood kept in a silver box in the temple tank Ananthasaras mandapam. Pooja will be performed once in 40 year. During muslims invasion the urchavar was sent to Udayarpalayam, near Trichy and latter brought back with great difficulty. 

The temple has three prakaras, 32 sannadhis, 19 vimanas and a 389 pillared mandapam. There is also a 100 lion faced pillared mandapam with sculptures associated with Mahabharata and Ramayana epic.  This was constructed during Vijayanagara period. The hanging chains sculptured out of single rock stone is worth to watch.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Thayar is in a separate temple and the vimana is called as  Kalyana kotti vimanam. There is a Malayala Nachiyar sannadhi  presumably built during 14th century by Chera Kings.

The Temple was re-built during 1503 CE by Kulothunga Chozha-I and Vikarama Chozha. During 14th century  another wall with Gopuram was built by Chozhas.

LEGEND:
As per legend when Brahma performed yagna or the ashwametha yagam Saraswathy in the form of Vegavathy river tried  to destroy the yagna. Sri Devarajaswamy emerged  as thousands of suns and destroyed the demons, Sarabam etc., and saved the Yagna and permanently stayed here.

Above moolavar sanctum there is an another floor. The ceiling of this floor has the Silver & Golden Lizards, Sun and Moon reliefs. It was believed that Indra installed after he was relieved from the curse of Goddess Saraswathi.  The walls has the  Nayak period paintings.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple is kept open for darshan during 06.30 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 16.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.

Sri Vilakkoli Perumal ( Sri Deepa Prakasar ). Tiruthanka, Thoopul, Vishnu Kanchi, Kanchipuram District Tamil Nadu. - 108 - DIVYA DESAM.

Tiruththanka or Thoopul is the birth place of Sri Vedantha Desikar one of the ardent devotee of Vishnu, whose sannadhi is at the side of the Vilakkoli Perumal temple. Also this is the birth place of Appaya Dikshitar one of  the Shiva devotee. The Thoopul  is otherwise called as tharbai was cultivated here used for Homam and Yagam. Thoopul means pure grass.

Thirumangai Alwar had done the mangalasanam, in praise of Maha Vishnu as Vilakoli Perumal, Deepa Prakasar of Thiruthanka, and Yathothakaari Perumal, Thiruvekka of Kanchipuram.

Some of the important features of this temple are …
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram and balipeedam, Dwajasthambam are after the Rajagopuram. Thayar is in a separate temple under Sikara Vimanam.  In sanctum moolavar is with Sridevi and Bhoodevi are in standing posture. In the outer prakaram Alwars, Thayar Sri Maragathavalli and Andal.

The sanctum was constructed during Chozha period and front mandapam was constructed by Vijayanagara kings at a latter date.

LEGEND: 
The  sthala purana is associated with Brahma’s ashwametha yagam. Saraswathi try to hide the light and send darkness through asuras. Perumal came in the form of Light, hence Perumal is called as Vilakoli Perumal or Deepa Prakasar.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple kept open for darshan from 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH :
The temple is in Vishnu Kanchi and about 3/4th KM from Ashtabuyagaram temple.

Sri Azhagiya Singa Perumal Temple – Thiruvelukkai, Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu - 108 - DIVYA DESAM TEMPLES.

The name of the sthalam says that Perumal is there to help his devotees. “Vel” means wish and “Irukkai” staying there. Since Perumal wishes to stay here to help devotees in sitting posture called as “Vellikkai”. Mangalasasanam was done by Thirumangai Alawar and Peyalwar. Sri Vedanta Desikar has sung “Kamaasi Ashtakam“  explains about Sri Narasimhar and wish to stay in this temple. ( Kamaasi = Kama+ Aasika – standing on his own wish ).

Thirumangai Alwar had done the mangalasanam, in praise of Sri Azhagiya Singa Perumal of Thiruvelukkai, Kanchipuram, in his pasuram.

அன்றிவ் வுலகம் அளந்த அசைவேகொல்,
நின்றிருந்து வேளுக்கை நீணகர்வாய், - அன்று
கிடந்தானைக் கேடில்சீ ரானை,முன் கஞ்சைக்

Some of the important features of this temple are …
The Temple is facing east. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam are at front after  3 tier Rajagopuram. Moolavar Narasimhar in Yoga sitting posture under Kanaka Vimanam. Narasimhar is in sitting – iruntha – posture facing west direction in Yoga stage.

Sannadhi for Andal, Alwars and Prakalathan are in the outer prakaram.

LEGEND
Lord Perumal manifested as Narasimhar and proceeded westwards to banish the asura demons from the vicinity, where he stood in the posture of Yoga. Bhaktha Prahalathan story is associated with Yoga Narasimhar. Birhu muni worshiped Lord Narasimhar of this temple.

The annual festival is celebrated during the month of Margazhi.

The temple is believed to be constructed by Pallavas in late 8th century and Chozhas ( Rajathiraja and Kulothunga Chozha ), Vijayanagara Kings also contributed to the temple.
