Wallajah Big Mosque, Triplicane, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

05th March 2017.
As part of Triplicane Heritage walk Visited this mosque. The mosque was constructed in a sprawling area  with a large open space in front.  Even though it was claimed that this was constructed during Tippu Sultan Period (1750 to 1799), as per the records available the mosque was built during 1795 by the Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah, the Nawab of Arcot. He is very friendly with Hindus. He appointed a Hindu as a Chief personal secretary. A chronogram in Persian language is written by Raja Makhan Lal Bahadur Khirat, the Hindu Munshi of the Nawab, is available at the entrance of the Prayer Hall.  The Mosque is being maintained by the Prince of Arcot Endowments Trust.  It was learnt that Hindus are also in the trust, which has to be verified.

The Mosque has a large Pray hall, built with granite stone in Mughal Architectural style with two minaret of 131 ( 40 Meters ) feet high.

There is a dharga on the right of the mosque in the name Hasrath Malikum Ulma Bahrul Ulum.  He was a saint who lived 300 years before and his body was buried here.  It was told that speech related ailments will get cured if any body comes to this Dargah and pray. Pigeons in large numbers are the visitors of this Mosque apart from Visitors and Muslims from Various parts of the country.
