Sri Theniswarar Temple / Theneeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ தேனீஸ்வரர் கோவில், Vellalore / Vellalur near Coimbatore, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu.

This Heritage visit was organised through Tamil Nadu Heritage forum and the event was created about 2 months before. After discussion and alterations in the schedule decided to visit the historical temples and Heritage sites before trekking to Velliangiri hills. Reached Coimbatore on 13^th night through Intercity express and Mr Ananda Kumar picked me from Railway station. Accommodation was arranged in Abirami Lodge at Gandhipuram, Coimbatore. Next day ie on 14^th April 2017, Mr. Ananda Kumar’s family and self started from Coimbatore to Vellalore. M/ s Gireesh, Vijayakumar and Thamizharasi joined with us at the temple.

இது தமிழக மரபுசார் ஆர்வலர் குழுவுடன் இணைந்து மேற்கொண்ட மரபு நடை பயணம். கோவைக்கு அருகே உள்ள பழமை வாய்ந்த வரலாற்று சிறப்பௌ மிக்க கோவில்கள், நடுகற்கள், சதிகற்கள், ஈம கல் வட்டங்களைக் காண்பதாக திட்டமிடப்பட்டது. இரண்டு மாதத்திற்கு முன்பே முடிவு செய்யப்பட்ட பயணம் பல மாறுதல்களுக்கு பின்பு 14ந்தேதி ஏப்ரல் மாதம் மேற்க்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. 13ந்தேதி இரவே கோவை இன்டர் சிட்டி தொடர் வண்டியில் சென்னையில் இருந்து கோவை வந்து விட்டேன். திரு ஆனந்த் அவர்கள் இரயில் நிலயத்தில் இருந்து தங்கும் விடுதிக்கு அவருடைய மகிழுந்தில் அழைத்து வந்தார். இரவு தங்க திரு ஆனந்த் அவர்கள் காந்திபுரத்தில் உள்ள அபிராமி விடுதியில் அறை ஏற்பாடு செய்து இருந்தார். காலையில் அவருடைய மகிழுந்திலேயே வெள்ளலூர் சென்றோம். வெள்ளலூர் ஸ்ரீ தேனீஸ்சுவரர் கோவிலில் இருந்து எங்கள் மரபு பயணம் ஆரம்பித்தது. விஜயகுமார், கிரீஷ், மற்றும் தமிழரசி ஸ்ரீ தேனீஸ்வரர் கோவிலில் இணைந்து கொண்டனர்.

ஸ்ரீ தேனீஸ்வரர் கோவில் கோவையில் இருந்து சுமார் 12 கி மி தொலைவில் நொய்யல் ஆற்றின் தென்கரையில் உள்ளது. வெள்ளலூர் அன்னதானபுரி, சிவபுரி,சர்கார் அக்ரஹாரம், வெளிர்நகர் மற்றும் சதுர்வேதி மஙகலம் என பல பெயர்களில் அழைக்கப்பட்டது இறைவன் தேனீஸ்வரர் என்றும் இறைவி சிவகாம சுந்தரி எனவும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இங்கு உள்ள சக்தி விநாயகரும் பஞசலிங்கேஸ்வரரும் வெள்ளைக் கற்களால் செய்யப்பட்டது. கோவிலின் நுழைவு வாயில் சுமைதாங்கி போன்ற அமைப்பில் உள்ளது. பொயு 9ம் நூற்றண்ண்டைச் சேர்ந்த தமிழ் கல்வெட்டுக்களுடம் கூடிய கற்கள் கிடைத்தாகவும் அவை கோவை தொல்பொருள் அலுவலகத்தில் இருப்பதாக கூறினர். மேலும் சோழர்கள் இக்கோவிலிலுக்கு திருப்பணி செய்து உள்ளனர். மாலிக்காபூர் படைஎடுப்பின் போது மிகவும் சேதம் அடைந்து பின்பு ஓரளவு சரி செய்யப்பட்டது.

The Vellalore is on the south bank of Noyyal river The river is also called as Kanchima nadhi. The Vellalore was called in different names as Annathanapuri, Sivapuri, Sarkar Akrakaram, Velir Nagar, Chaturvedi mangalam. As per the inscriptions, the place Vellalore was called as Velilur Thennur,

Some of the important features of this temple are...

The temple is facing east with an unique stone structure like சுமை தாங்கி and square Gopuram. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Rishabam are immediately after the entrance square gopuram. In koshtam Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Durgai.

In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Nagars under Peepal /Bodhi tree, Suryan 63var with Athiri maharishi & Viswanathar Visalakshi, Sakthi Vinayagar, Pancha Lingeswarar (both Sakthi Vinayagar and Pancha Lingeswarar are made of white stone- வெங்ககல் ), Balamurugan, Chandikeswarar ( Ayyanar posture ), Chandran, Bhairavar, Saneeswaran and Navagrahas.

Ambal is also facing east on the left side of moolavar.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, antarala, Artha mandpam and Maha mandapam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The temple was believed to be built before 9th Century and latter received contributions from Chozhas. The temple was damaged during Malik Kafur invasion ( 1310 CE ). Inscriptions are found at the entrance door granite frame. The inscription stones belongs 9^th century unearthed in the temple premises are kept at Coimbatore Archaeology Department. The inscriptions records the donations given in terms of gold to this temple for lighting perpetual lamp / Nandha Deepam.

The 1920 year ( Salivahana sakaptha 1842 ) inscription records that, Kumarakonan's wife Maruthakkal established Vishwanathan Visalakshi Amman 63 Nayanmar idols with Mandapam. For the same Lands belongs to her worth of Rs 2500 at Vellalur, Singanur, Chettipalayam gifted to this temple
