Sri Jagannatha Perumal Temple / Thirumazhisai Alwar Temple, Thirumazhisai, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

28th May 2017

Thirumazhisai Shiva and Perumal temples came to my mind when I thought of last weeks end temples visit. Even though I had been to Thirumazhisai Shiva temple, this is the first time, visiting this Sri Jagannatha Perumal temple also called as Madhya Jagannatha Perumal temple.  Lord Shiva identified this place to do a penance for Athiri, Bhrigu and Markandeya maharishis, which is slightly heavier than the other places on the earth. Visited another Perumal temple which has the similar features.

There is also a interesting story about Sri Thirumazhisai Alwar. Initially he was a devotee of Lord Shiva and had done penance to attain Moksha. Lord  Shiva  said that Vishnu can only give Moksha and asked him  for some other boon. Thirumazhisai alwar asked a small thread to could keep rolling in to the needle that he used to stitch the torn clothes. On hearing this Lord Shiva got angry and the fire came from the third eye to burn Thirumazhisai alwar.  ( Thirumazhisai Alwar had a third eye on his right foot toe given by Perumal ).
