The temple, along with the adjacent AadhiKesava Perumal temple was built by Audiyappa Narayana, a dubash to the British as per the instruction of  British’s Govt. This is to motivate weavers to take residence around these two temples. These temples were built at a cost of 18000 pagodas  during 1730s.
