Sri Nagathamman Temple / ஸ்ரீ நாகாத்தம்மன் கோயில், An Ellai Amman Temple of Mambalam Village, Mambalam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

In search of  Mambalam EllaiAmman and Village Guarding deities continued on 25th March 2018, since no program was planned on Sunday. It was  pending for a long period to get clarifications from the Poojari of Nava Sakthi Pidari Sri Kaliamman temple of Ashok Nagar, one of the EllaiAmman of Mambalam. I was lucky this time. He guided me to go to this Sri Nagathamman Temple on the border of Ashok Nagar and KK Nagar.

Some of the important features of this temple are….
This temple is facing east with an entrance arch. The stucco images of dwarapalakis are on the both sides of the entrance. Soolam, balipeedam and Simha Vahana are immediately after the entrance arch in the front mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, artha mandapam and a Mukha mandapam. In mukha mandapam stucco images of various incarnations of Ambal. Nagars are under a peepal tree and Navagrahas are in the mandapam. The sanctum vimana is of 2 tiers and Durgai is in koshtam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that the presiding deity Amman ( Amman’s head under the Amman kept in sitting posture )  and the Amman under peepal tree are found while ploughing in the same place, which was once an agricultural land. Poojari told that he do not know, from when the original temple exists, but  may be 400 to 500 years old. The present temple was constructed about 50 years before  and kumbhabhishekam was conducted in the year 1993. He also told this is also an Ellaiamman Temple of Ashok Nagar ( originally it was a part of Mambalam area )  and KK Nagar.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will get opened between 06.00 hrs  to 11.00 hra and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

HOW TO REACH:
Very near to Nagathamman temple bus stop on P T Rajan Salai, in KK Nagar, 20th Avenue.
Town buses G70, 5E, 37D, 11H and 18H passes through this place.
