It was told that during Saiva and Jains ( Samanars ) religions conflict this kazhumaram was used to kill the persons who lost in the debate or defeat கழுவேற்றம் ) as a punishment. It is also believed that the dead man's athma lives in the kazhumaram. This kazhumaram was made of Palm tree. This kazhuvetra punishment is available as sculpture in many temples. But experts of the opinion that there is no evidence to prove this Kazhuvetra punishment was given after defeat, especially to the Jains or Samanars during Saiva and Jains conflict.
