25-01-2013, FRIDAY.
On official duty, I had been to Thirukadaiyur on 25th January
2013. Morning. I had been to the Thirukadaiyur Shiva temple. There was an
unusual atmosphere at the temple. When enquired, I was told that the temple
elephant Abirami passed away on the 24th night. The routine schedules were
rearranged or postponed. The usual 60th and 80th marriages
were also not performed till afternoon. But only Pooja was done without
elaborate arrangements. After worshiping Lord Shiva I had been to THIRUVIDAIKAZHI. Since
there were no frequent buses hired an auto and he charged me Rs 200. The total
distance was 18 KM up and down.
After worshiping Sri Subramaniar and Lord Shiva at
Thiruvidaikazhi returned back via Thillaiyadi. At Thillaiyadi tried to
visit THILLAIYADI Valliammai manimandapam, but to my
disappointment, it was found locked. I had been to a Shiva Temple at
Thillaiyadi also.
In the afternoon I was free, so decided to visit VAZHUVUR near
Mayiladuthurai. When I reached the temple around 14.30 Hrs the temple was
closed after Uchi Kala Pooja and the local people told me that the temple would be
opened after 16.00. The main door of the temple was opened at 16.00 Hrs but the
sanctum door was not opened, since Gurukkal had not turned. Gurukkal came around
18.00 Hours and we had the darshan of Sri Gaja Samhara Moorthy. It was a dream
to go to this temple and see the Urchavamurti of Sri Gaja Samhara Moorthy. (A similar moortham is available in our office, which is a private collection of Dr
AC Muthiah. This gives me more desire to go to this temple )

THILLAIYADI SARNDHAARAI KAATHA SHIVA TEMPLE
Moolavar : Sri Sarndhaarai Kaatha Easwaran Temple
This
Shiva Temple is in Thillaiyadi On the way to Thiruvidaikazhi from
Thirukadaiyur. The story of the temple goes like this.
This temple was built by a minister of a king without the
permission of the King. At the same time, The King also constructed a temple.
When the kumbhabhishekam date of both temples coincides Lord Shiva in King's
dream told that he would be attending the minister’s temple.
Based on this the king visited the temple and asked the ministers
to give the benefit of constructing this temple. When the minister refused, the
King tried to kill him with his word. Lord Shiva appeared and the sword
hit the legs of Shiva ( crack is shown to me in the Aalingana Moorthy ) in
Koshtam.
Devas worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. Brahma worshiped in
the form of Yazhi.

Lord Shiva killed the elephant which came out of velvi conducted
by 48000 rishis to get more power than gods. Hence Lord Shiva is

Urchavar is kept in a separate sannadhi and a Srichakram is
placed behind by Kanchi Sankarachariyar ( Periava ). Very beautiful to look at.
Under Urchavar we can see Ambal with Subramaniar as a child on her hip and

Ambal turned to return back to home.
