When the water level increases, the temple will be inaccessible. Later, the Shiva Linga and Rishabam / Idabam were shifted to the present place, and the present structure was built.

LEGENDS
Lord Shiva is also called Seshapureeswarar. It is believed that snakes ie, Rahu and Ketu, worship Lord Shiva of this temple, and hence, this is a Parihara Sthalam for Rahu and Ketu.

Since the Avudayar is of Square shape, it is believed that this Shiva Linga was installed by Maharishis, who had done dabas in this area. Originally, Lord Shiva was called Kandha Lingeswarar (Magnet Lingeswarar) since the Shiva Linga was made out of Kantha Stone (which may be rich in iron content)
