The visit to this Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple at
Udaiyalur, Kumbakonam, was a part of the Shiva and Vishnu temples visit on 08th
March 2025, the previous day of “Sembiyan Mahadeviyar Temples Heritage Tour”

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces west, with an entrance arch on the
south side. A balipeedam is in front of Sanctum sanctorum. Amman has a
ferocious look, jwala on the back of the head, and holding various weapons. No
images are found in the koshtas.
An anthill, Muniswaran idols are in the praharam.
ARCHITECTURE
The entire temple was constructed with bricks in the Gramiya style. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, an ardha mandapam, and
an open mukha mandapam. A Salakara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is said this temple is more than 1000 years old
and belongs to the Chozha period.
LEGENDS
This Selva Maha Kaliamman is a village-guarding
deity.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Two kala poojas are conducted as per the HR & CE
Circular. Special poojas are conducted on Fridays and Sundays. The annual festival
will be conducted in the month of May.

The temple will be kept open during the Pooja
times, 08.30 hrs to 09.30 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.
