Thiruvotriyur, Tamil Nadu.

30, December 2012
Chennai is the treasure of temples and Jeeva  Samadhis. I had the chance to visit the Padagacheri Sri- la -Sri Ramalinga Swamigal on Sunday 30th December 2012. This may be the last post I will be posting in 2012. I will undertake the Padha Yatra to Tirupati from Chennai on 31st Dec 2012.  When I was travelling to Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal in and around Kumbakonam I had been to the Nageswaran Temple in Kumbakonam, one of the Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and  Sri-la-Sri Ramalinga Swamigal mutt at Padagacheri. This makes me to visit Jeeva Samadhi at Thiruvotriyur. Since I could not locate, the exact place, I sought the help of my friend.  He took me to the Jeeva Samadhi through his motorcycle from Thiruvottiyur Railway station.

Entrance top Stucco image of Sri-la- Sri Ramalinga Swamigal  Jeeva Samadhi

Even though my friend advised me to reach by 16.00 Hrs I was able to make it only at 17.00 Hrs.  It was a wonderful experience for me when I meditated in the Jeevasamadhi. Both Sri-la-Sri Ramalinga Swamigal and Appudu Swamigal jeeva Samadhi are in an industrial area on private property.  The keeper/in-charge told me that I was lucky enough to get the darshan at the first instance itself.  Also, he advised me to visit on Thaipoosam day to see the mutt in which the articles used by Swamigal are kept.

Some of the salient features of Sri-la-Sri Ramalinga Swamigal are….
Swamigal was born in 1870 AD, in a Village in Coimbatore District to a Telugu family from Andhra Pradesh. After his parent's demise, during his young age,  went with Sri Erithatha at Bellary of Karnataka State. Also, He was initiated by Sri Ramalinga Vallalar at the age of 13.

Came back to Nachiyar Koil near Kumbakonam and wandered like Digambara ( Nirvanam ), It irritated the Muslims and gave complaints. He used to meditate with parts of the body separated ( Navakandam ). He worked with a landlord to look after the cows.

After seeing his power the villagers of Padagacheri requested him to stay at Padagacheri and accepted their request.

He is very keen on serving Annadhanam to the people and Bhairavas ( Dogs ). He had constructed a madam at Kumbakonam and served annadhanam to the people before moving to Chennai. Also he worshiped Erithatha Swamigal, Nepala Swamigal, and Appudu Swamigal at Kumbakonam.

He used to serve food to Dogs. He asked to keep food on the banana leaves including the quantity. When he calls the dogs will come and eat. The miracle here is the no of food on the banana leaves served will match the no of dogs that arrived.

He cured the decease of a Nattukottai Chettiar and one Thiru Sammanna of Karnataka State, those are washed off by the hand of Doctors. He also used to give herbal medicines to the people.

During the construction of Rajagopuram at Kumbakonam, due to a shortage of funds to disburse, he gave handfuls of sand to the workers which turned into wages for the day they worked.

He is instrumental in constructing the Rajagopuram of Sri Nageswaran Temple at Kumbakonam. For that, he collected money from the people hanging a metal pot ( Chembu ) from his neck. For the kumbhabhishekam he served annadhanam for more than one lakh people. His image in stucco image is available on the first level of the Rajagopuram.

Once he made to move the train after the devotees got into a train when they were asked to get down for not having the tickets.

The Temple at the entrance of Guindy, Chennai Railway station was built by him and his Stucco image is also available on the top.
During meditation, people in various places had seen him at the same time.

He attained Jeeva Samadhi at Chennai Thiruvottiyur during 1949 and his Jeeva Samadhi along with Appudu Swamigal is in a private industrial area.

 23, December 2012
22-12-2012, SATURDAY & 23-12-2012, SUNDAY
For this month’s yathra, I had planned to cover the Shiva temples in and around Mayiladuthurai and Thirukadaiyur, Since Mayiladuthurai was left out in my previous visits. As usual on Friday night started my yatra from Chennai and landed at Thirukadaiyur. My plan was to cover the temples up to Thirumarugal, camping at Thirukadaiyur on first day. This time, thought of using only the public transport, instead of hiring a taxi. On first day I could able to cover 7 temples including Thirukadaiyur.

On  Sunday, after vacating the lodge, proceeded to Thirupariyalur. I, tried to cover 4 temples including Vazhuvur,  one of the Veeratta Sthalam. When I completed my darshan at Mayiladuthurai, the time was around 12.00 Hrs, so dropped the idea of going to Vazhuvur, since planned to catch bus to Chennai after lunch. Also I had lost about 2 hrs at Thirupariyalur, waiting for the temple to open. During this time most of the time was consumed for waiting for the bus and  walking  to the temples from the main roads. In this yathra many people helped me to reach the temples through their motor cycles.

With the 9 temples covered in this yathra, the total Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal list has grown   to 242. The details of the Temples and the photographs are uploaded in this post as per the order of the dharshan.
