98/44 – KOTTAIYUR KODEESWARAR TEMPLE, KOTTAIYUR 


Now this place is called as CHOZHICHURAM, BABURAJAPURAM. This is the 98th Devaram Paadal petra Shiva Sthalam and 44th on the north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are....
Kottai Kottaiyaga is seen on moolavar. Navagraha are with their respective vaganas and enthiram on back beautifully chiseled. Chandran and Suriyan are with chariot & horses. Ashtabhuja Durgai is seen with  right leg in front is worth to see.  Vishnu Durgai in outer prakaram. It was learned that Kodi Vinayagar is swayambhu, when it was tried to take out for renovation even after digging 20 feet they could not find the end of the base. Eranda munivar in meditating posture in the front mandapam. Lord of this temple shown as Kodi Vigneswara, Kodi Ammai, Kodi murugan,  to Pathira Yogi Muni.

LEGENDS
It was believed that Lord Shiva appeared from Aamanakku (kottai) plant. ( In Tamil it is called Erandam ). The Pavam / sin and punniyam in this temple will be multiplied to Kodi. Markandeyar worshiped Lord shiva of this temple.

99/45 – INNAMBUR - EZHUTHARINATHAR TEMPLE, INNAMBUR.


This is the 99th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 45th Sthalam on north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnanasambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are.....
Rajagopuram in 5 stage and there is no kodimaram. In Koshtam Vinayagar, Pichadanar, Dakshinamurthy, Arthanareeswarar, Brahma, Katchi kodutha Nathar ( In lingothbavar) and Durgai.

Lot of trees ( Fruit) are grown by the temple personnel. Sanctum is little high. Stucco images in moolavar vimanam gajabrushta shape. Moolavar avudai is little big. Ambal in Chaturbhujam in standing posture. There are two Ambal sannadhis.

On Kumbakonam to Thiruvaiyaru route through Swamimalai take diversion at Puliancheri Bus Stop and Innambur is  about 3 KM.

100/46. SRI SAKSHINATHESWARAR TEMPLE, THIRUPURAMBIYAM


This is the 100th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 46th sthalam on the north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Moovar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are.....
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram and Balipeedam Rishabam and a Dwajasthambam are after the Rajagopuram. A mandapa with a second level 3 tier Rajagopuram is at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum.

Separate temple for Guru Dakshinamurthy. Vinayagar is special in this temple, made of Chippi, Kilinjal and sea foam. Honey Abhishekam is performed once in a year on Vinayaka Chathurthi day. All the honey will be absorbed in the idol itself. Two Ambal temples. The idols in the koshtam are damaged. Only  thaila kappu is done for the moolavar. Sri Guhambigai Ambal holding Sri Murugan in the hip idol made of wax is in a separate mandapam.

The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and artha mandapam. a Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum. 

LEGENDS
It was believed that Lord Shiva gave sakshi to a Chetti lady.

102-48. SRI VILVAVANESWARAR TEMPLE, THIRUVAIKVUR - TIRUVAIKAVUR.


This is the 102nd Devaram Paadal petra Shiva Sthalam and 48th sthalam  on north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

Consort      : Sri Sarvajana rakshaki, Sri Valakkai nayagi.

Some of the important features of this temple are....
The temple is facing east with out Rajagopuram and Dwajasthambam. Rishabam is facing same direction ( East ) like moolavar to threaten and chase Yamadharman. There is no Navagraha sannidhi. Moolavar is swayambhu. There are Two Durgai Amman. In Artha mandapam lord Shiva in the form of Dakshinamurthy with a stick in hands to chase Emadharman. Brahma and Vishnu are on both sides. In koshtam Ganapathy, Pichadanar, Agasthiya munivar, Lingothbavar, Arthanareeswarar, Durgai. 

LEGENDS 
This temple celebrates Maha Shivaratri in a grand manner. This relates to a story of a hunter who came to this place in search of a deer. Lord Shiva to save the  deer came in the form of a Tiger. On seeing the tiger the hunter climbed up the tree and unknowingly he plugged the leaves ( Vilvam ) and thrown on the tiger without sleep through out night. The leaves fell on the tiger/ Shiva, hence the hunter got blessing from Lord shiva.     ( The stucco images are at the entrance).

101-47 SRI VIJAYA NATHESWARAR TEMPLE, THIRUVIJAYAMANGAI.


This is the 101st  Devaram Paadal petra Shiva Sthalam and 47th Sthalam on the north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are..... 
The temple is facing east with an entrance arch with Shiva & Parvati stucco image. Vinayagar, Rishabam and balipeedam are after the entrance arch. In koshtam Dakshinamurthy. Ambal is in a separate temple with sanctum and ardha mandapam. a Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum. 

The temple is small but maintained beautifully. The kumbabishekam might have conducted in recent years. Only Dakshinamurthy in koshtam Moolavar vimanam is higher than the entrance small rajagopuram. There is a scar on moolavar due to Arjuna’s arrow.

The temple is between Thiruvaikavur and Thirupurambiyam, 100 meters of the road.

The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Palipedam and Rishabam are after the Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and artha mandapam. A Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum. In koshtam Natarajar, Pichadanar, Narthana Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, Arthanareeswarar, Durgai.

There is White Pillayar temple in front of the east side Rajagopuram. People mainly come for worshiping white Pillayar. There is single stone slab jolly work to be watched in front of sannadhi. Sani Bhagavan in a separate sannadhi. Ambal in a separate temple facing east.  There are about 54 lingas in the outer prakaram. Sanctum is in agali / moat shape..

136-19. PALAIVANANATHAR TEMPLE / SRI PALAIVANESWARAR TEMPLE,  THIRUPALATHURAI - PAPANASAM.


This is the 136th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 19th Sthalam on the South side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

The temple is facing  east with Rajagopuram. There is no stucco images/ sirpam in the Rajagopuram. 

ARCHITECTURE
The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and artha mandapam. A Vesara Vimana is over the sanctum. Ambal is in a separate sannadhi. Lord Shiva and Ambal are in Kalyana Kolam. Natarajar dance is called Urdhva thandavam.

HISTORY
There is a 400 years old paddy storage bin  to hold 3000 kalam paddy is at the entrance Rajagopuram. 

LEGENDS 
Thirumal, Brahma , Vishnu, Devars, Vasistar worshiped Lord Shiva in this temple. Arjuna married Uloobi from patala loka after learning the bow and arrow technique. Tharukavanam ( Thirupparaithurai near Trichy ) munivars had done velvi, the tiger came out was made to chase Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva killed Tiger and he used the leather for wearing.

137-20. KALYANASUNDARESAR TEMPLE / SRI PANCHAVARNESWARAR TEMPLE, THIRUNALLUR - NALLUR


This is the 137th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 20th Sthalam on the South side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnanasambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord shiva of this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are......
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Dwajasthambam, balipedam, Rishabam are immediately after the Rajagopuram. This is one of the mada Koil built by Ko Chenkat Chozhan. 

ARCHITECTURE
The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and artha mandapam.The material of the Lord Shiva Idol was not known. But lot of holes made by bees/ vandukal are seen. The Moolavar will change his colour to 5 during the day, via, Thamiram, Light red, Molten gold, Navarathna green, lastly, the colour will not be able to predict. Hence The lord is called Panchavarneswarar. ( During my dharshan the colour was in golden colour). Stucco /Suthai Sirpam of Lord Shiva and Sri Parvati’s marriage is seen at the back wall of moolavar.

LEGENDS
Shiva gave thiruvadi Deekshai in this temple for Appar. Hence thiruvadi is kept on each devotee ( Like Sadari in Perumal temples ). Amar neethi nayanar attained mukti in this place. 

Vayu and Aadhisheshan fought in this place. Thiruvarur moolavar was kept 3 days in the temple and worshiped before installation at Thiruvarur by Musukuntha Chakravarthy, which he got from Indran.

The moolavar valam should be in Somasundara method, since it is believed that Lord Shiva’s head and hair are at the back side of the moolavar. Hence nobody should cross the back side of the moolavar.

The temple is under renovation and preparing for the kumbabishekam.
