Panchamukha Sivan Temple & Devi Karumariamman Temple, Mogappair West, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Panchamukha Shiva Temple and Sri Karumariamman Temple at Mogappair was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu, and Amman Temples Visit” - in Anna Nagar, Arumbakkam and Mogappair, on 16th October 2022.  Even though the present temple was built in the 20th Century, the temple has a long history with unique features.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing west. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar Shiva Lingam is with five faces on a round avudayar. Vinayagar and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar are on both sides of sanctum sanctorum.

Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing South. A Maha Meru is installed in front of Ambal. Sri Kala Bairavar and Dakshina Kali are on both sides of Ambal sannidhi. 

ARCHITECTURE
The temple does not follow South Indian architecture but follows the North Indian style of Vimana. The Sanctum sanctorum is of Circular shape and the vimanam is in a conical shape.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This temple belongs to the 20th Century.  It was learned that this Shiva Lingam was brought from Kashi and installed as per the advice of Kanchi Mutt Sankarachariyar. 

LEGENDS
The five faces of Shiva are 1. Ishana – connected to anugraha sakthi, ie blessing power, 2. Tatpurusha, also called Maheswara, is connected to Thoridhana Sakthi ie the power of Concealment, 3. Agora also known as Rudra is connected to Samhara Sakthos Shiva also called dissolution power, 4. Vamadeva is connected to Maha Vishnu, stithi sakthi also known as the power of sustenance, and 4. Sadyojata is connected to Brahma  - the power of Srishti also known as the power of creation.

Devotees pray to Ambal for a Child boon and a good marriage alliance. For marriages, the devotees are asked to keep their horoscope for 11 days in Ambal Sannidhi and do poojas.


POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Regular Poojas, special poojas are conducted, pradosam, Maha Shivaratri, etc,.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open between 06.00 hrs to 10.30 hrs, 17.45 hrs to 20.30 hrs, Tuesdays 15.00 hrs to 16.30 hrs, Fridays 06.00 hrs to 11.30 hrs and Sundays 17.30 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

Devi Karumariamman Temple
This temple is just on the back side of Sri Panchamukha Shiva Temple. The temple is facing east with an entrance from the west side. Trishul, balipeedam, and Simham are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Amman is in sitting posture with abhaya varada hastam. A Head size Amman is installed in front of the presiding deity. Nagathamman, Valampuri Vinayagar, and Renuga Devi are under a peepal tree.

The Amman is a guarding deity of this Village. Special poojas are conducted on Pournami and Amavasya, and the annual festival is in the month of Aadi.

This temple is about 1 km from Mangal Eri Park,
The temple is 2.5 KM from the Ambattur Industrial Estate bus stand, 7.4 KM from the Koyambedu bus terminus, and 14 KM from Chennai Central Railway Station.
The Nearest Railway station is Thirumangalam about 4 KM.
