Shri Lakshminarayana Perumal Temple, ஶ்ரீ லக்ஷ்மிநாராயண பெருமாள் கோவில், Periyavadamalaipalayam, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple at Periyavadamalaipalayam was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edappadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places.  


It was told that this Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple is considered as the Kuladeivam for some of the Bhattars serving at Tirupati and Srirangam.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with a Garuda thoon / Deepa sthamabam. The entrance to the temple is with a mandapam. Stucco images of Lakshmi Narayanar under Adiseshan’s hood, Maha Lakshmi and Saraswati are on the top of the mandapam. Balipeedam, Nagars and Garudan’s sannidhi are in front of the temple.

A Nagar with Kalinga nardhanar is on the right side entrance to sanctum sanctorum. The bas of the Nagar has the bas relief of Donors. Lakshmi Narayanar is in the sanctum sanctorum. The koshtas are empty. 

In Praharam Sudarsanar with Narasimhar on the back and a stone temple, Theertha well, Thulasi madam  and Narayanar.




ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The entrance to the mandapam is on the south side. The sanctum sanctorum is on a Padma bandha adhistanam with Padma jagathy, Kumudam and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The koshtas are of sala style. The pilasters are of Vishnu kantha pilasters with square base, kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai and pushpa pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi, kapotam with nasi kudus. The Super structure above the bhumidesam was constructed with bricks and cement, the Vimanam is of one tala and Sigaram is of Nagara style. Maha Vishnu’s various avatars / forms are on the tala and greeva koshtas.




The well / theertha well walls are constructed with stone.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may be 400 to 500 years old, built during Vijayanagara's period and latter received contributions from Nayakas. Nayaka kings reliefs are on the pillars and Nagar base.

LEGENDS
It was told that, this is the kuladeivam for some of the Bhattars serving at Tirupati and Srirangam. They used to attend Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at this temple. 

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Vaikunta ekadasi, Ramar Jayanthi, Hanuman Jayanthi, Margazhi Saturdays, Etc,
On Vaikunta Ekadasi day, lakhs of people throng this temple to seek the blessings of Sri Lakshmi Narayanar.

Devotees worships Perumal for child boon, to remove marriage obstacles etc.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH
The temple at Periyavadamalaipalayam is about 3.3 KM from Orichery on the Bhavani to Athani bus route, 8 KM from Appakudal, 11 KM from Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple, 16 KM from Athani, and 25 KM from Erode.
Nearest Railway station is Erode.
