Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ கபாளீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Mylapore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

SRI KAPALEESWARAR TEMPLE, MYLAPORE,
This is one of the Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu, Mylapore, ChennaiThis temple is also one of the Saptha Sthana Shiva Sthalangal in Mylapore, Chennai, Like Thiruvaiyaru. On 28th October 2012, I went to all these temples as laid down in the Saptha Sthana darshan method ( As per the order given below ). The other six temples are 1. Kaaraneecharam ( Middle of Bazar Street), 2. Theerthapaleeswarar temple ( Middle of Dr. Natesan Road ), 3. Velleecharam ( South Mada street - Near Kapaleeswarar Temple ), 4. Virupaksheeswarar Temple ( Bazar Road near Karaneeswarar temple), 5. Valeeswarar Temple (On the opposite street of Karaneeswarar temple.) 6. Malleeswarar Temple ( Back side of Karaneeswarar temple - Next lane ). The details of the Saptha Sthana Temples are posted separately. 

Iraivan : Sri Kapaleeswarar
Iraivi    : Sri Kargambal.

Some of the important details of this temple are.....
The temple is facing west with a three-tier Rajagopuram and there is a 7 tier Rajagopuram with Vinayagar Sannidhi on the east side entrance. The temple tanks with a neerazhi mandapam on the west side. Palipedam, Dwajasthambam, and Nandhi are after the west side Rajagopuram.  The Sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, and artha mandapam. In Koshtam Durgai, Brahma, Lingothbavar, Dakshinamurthy, Selvaganapathy. 

In the Inner prakaram Murtis of Singaravelar, Sri Subramaniar Natarajar, Sivakami, Kargambal, Somaskandar Urchava murtis, 63var in two rows, Saraswathi, Durgai, Lakshmi, Lingangal, Veerabhadra, Naalvar, Kargambal, Santhana kuravarkal ( I could not see these in southern side temples), (Umapathi Sivam, Maraigana Sivam, Arunantha Sivam, Meikanda Sivam). Polla Pillayar, 63var in stone.

In the outer prakaram Sannadhi for Arunagirinathar, Thirugnanasambandar & Angamboombavai, Punnai Vana Nathar, Sundareswarar, Navagrahas, Shiva Linga Moortham, Narthana Vinayagar, Annamalaiyar, Singaravelar, Pazhani Andavar, Vaayilar Nayanar.

There is a big mandapam and a 4-pillar mandapam on the south side to conduct functions.

Legend: There is a story behind Thirugnanasambandar and Angamboombavai. Angamboombavai came alive from the ashes and Thirugnanasambandar refused to marry her. The reason Thirugnanasambandar gave was, she had become his daughter when she became alive through him.

The temple is kept open between 06.30 Hrs to 11.00 Hrs and 16.30 Hrs to 20.30 Hrs

HOW TO REACH :
There is a Railway station Thirumayilai on the Velachery to Beach MRTS train route. Very near to the Railway station. 
Town buses are available from various parts of the city.
