It was planned to cover 4 temples in
Manimangalam and we could cover only the Perumal and Shiva Temples. The Manimangalam was called as Chathur vedhi mangalam during Chozha’s period.
The place around the village are plain with paddy fields.
Hope this was the place where the war between Pulikesi and Pallavas
took place as described by Kalki.
SRI RAJAGOPALASWAMY TEMPLE, AT
MANIMANGALAM
Moolavar : Sri
Rajagopala swamy.
Thayar :
Sri Sengamalavalli Thayar.
Some of the important features of this
temple are…
There is a 4 pillar mandapam at the
entrance. There is no Rajagopuram, and only an
entrance arch with stucco images of Perumal. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam are
immediately after the entrance. The temple consists of sanctum, artha mandapam and Maha mandapam. The maha mandapam is constructed in front of artha mandapam with entrances from north side and south side. The moolavar vimanam is with out much stucco images. The special attraction of this temple is moolavar’s conch and the disc positions are interchanged.
Sri Sengamalavalli Thayar and Sri
Andal Sannadhi are in the outer prakaram. There is also a 4 pillar mandapam in
front of the thayar sannidhi.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple was constructed
during Chozha period and the temple walls has many inscriptions.
The temple was closed during our visit and could not the details of the
inside temple.
TEMPLE TIMINGS :
Since oru kala pooja is performed, the
pattar near by may be called for darshan.

SRI
DHARMESWARAR TEMPLE
This Shiva temple is on
the east side of the village and under the control of Archeological survey of
India with fence around the temple complex. The temple is maintained in
very good condition. Balipedam, Rishabam and Ambal sanadhi are
constructed in front of the temple east side wall. Nandhavanam is
also developed in front of the temple compared to my earlier visit.
