24,
September 2012
On
22nd and 23rd September
2012, I undertook my 3rd
yatra to Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalangal in and around Kumbakonam and this time
Mayiladuthurai also. As usual, reached Kumbakonam on the 22nd morning
from Chennai by bus. After taking a bath at the lodge, hired a taxi and started my
yatra. I was able to cover 18 Shiva Temples and a Vishnu Temple ( Lord Krishna
as Amruviappan, one of 108 Divya Desam at Therazhundur).
22-09-2012,
SATURDAY.
First,
I had been to THIRUVISANALLUR. After
darshan, my plan was to go to Thiruthuthevankudi. Since the temple was scheduled
to open only after 09.00 Hrs, skipped and went to the temple SENGANOOR (
Senganur ). The road was very bad since the road was being used by bullock
carts. After darshan at SENGANUR went to THIRUVOIPADI and THIRUPPANANDAL.
Returned back once again to TIRUNDUDEVANKUDI. After completing
darshan proceeded to THIRUMANGALAKUDI and KANCHANOOR.
Kanchanoor is one of the Navagraha sthalam, ie SUKRAN Sthalam. A lot of
people throng this temple for darshan. Pooja is mainly conducted for Sukran.
The Sukran sannadhi is in parallel to Shiva’s sannadhi. Then went to the
temples THIRUKODIKAVAL, ETHIRKOLPADI (
Melai Thirumanancheri ), and THIRUMANANCHERI ( Keezhai
Thirumanancheri). In the Kalyana Sundareswarar sannadhi, at Thirumanancheri,
Ambal looks very cute with a beautiful smile on her face (Naanam). Tried our
luck to have darshan at Thiruvelvikudi, but to our disappointment, the temple
was closed.
After
lunch at Kuthalam returned back to THIRUVELVIKUDI and spent
about 3 hours on the banks of the Temple tank. It was an awesome and amazing site to see the temple tank with water and the kingfisher
catching the fish. The temple was opened only at 17.30 Hrs, against opening
time of 16.30 hrs. After darshan went to the temple THIRU ANNIYUR (
Ponnur ), (The temple priest explained me in detail and allowed me to take
pictures. He asked me to spread the temple details so that more people could
visit this temple), THIRU KORUKKAI ( Korkai/ Korukkai )
and THIRU NIDUR ( Nidur – a station on the train route). The
darshan at the last three temples, with the lamps/torch light and
the praharams are under the cover of darkness, due to power failure/ load
shedding. Closed my day’s darshan and returned back to the lodge.
23-09-2012,
SUNDAY.
Based
on my previous yatra darshans experience, like to use public transport to
cover some more temples this time also. First I went to the temple THIRUVADUTHURAI. After
darshan, I came to know that the same Gurukkal is doing pooja at THITUKKOZHAMBAM also.
When I requested, Gurukkal for darshan, he asked his son to take me to the
temple through his TVS 50 (Kurukkal also offered me a Kumbakonam degree coffee). It
was about a 5 KM journey from Thiruvaduthurai on a bumpy road and
Gurukkal’s son dropped me back at the Thiruvalangadu bus stand. Since KUTHALAM is
on the way to Mayiladuthurai, got down at Kuthalam and had the darshan at
Kuthalam. The temple is big and understands that temple authorities are
preparing for the Kumbhabhishekam. Waited for the bus to THERAZHUNDUR for
about 1.5 Hrs, and finally hired a taxi for one way to Theruzhundur. The pooja
was conducted by a Vishnu Battachariyar at this Shiva temple. After
darshan at Shiva temple, I also had the darshan of Lord Krishna ( Lord
Krishna as Amuruviappan ), which is on the opposite street of Shiva
Sannadhi.
We
know that there is a relationship between the temple at Thiruvaiyaru and nearby
temples in connection with the marriage function of Sri Nandhi Devar at
Thirumazhapadi. Similarly the marriage between Lord Shiva and
Parvati after separation due to pakadai/ Chokkattan Attam. This
time Lord Vishnu was also involved
I
couldn’t make a visit to Pandanallur and Mayiladuthurai as planned ( Too
greedy ). During my visit, most of the temples were locked and the
Gurukkals were kind enough to open the temple for my darshan. I
expressed my heartfelt thanks to all.
