Sri Kamakshi Amman temple, Saidapet West, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

11th December 2016.
I was very much upset over the cancellation of  Trichy, Thirumayam temple  Heritage walk, scheduled to depart on Friday evening itself from Chennai.  So to compensate the same, thought of visiting the left out temples in West Saidapet. This posts are delayed due to VARDAH cyclone... No power, No Network.

Started from home through my scooter via Saidapet market, subway, since the temple are located not on the bus route. The posts are written as per the sequence of the temples I visited.  Some of the temples are very old.

SRI KAMAKSHI AMMAN TEMPLE.
The temple is on the Chetty Street. The temple is facing east with an entrance arch,  balipeedam and dwajasthambam.  There are sannadhis for Anjaneyar, Navagrahas and Vinayagar.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
When I inquired, the Battar ( a Vaishnavite ), who does the pooja, said the moortham and the mandapam are  300 to 400 years old ( may be Nayak’s period  - from the pillars -  a wild guess ) and equal to the period of Sri Sundareswarar Temple ( Vada Thirunaraiyur ) on Brahmin Street of West Saidapet. Previously the temple’s deity was called a Kaliamman and now called as Kamakshi Amman.

The temple is being managed by the Viswakarma community.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
In addition to regular poojas,  special poojas are also conducted on Amavasai and pournami.
