After
the Visit to Sri Someswara Temple at Hale Budanur, we had been to this temple
which is very close to this Village Budanur. The visit to this temple was a
part of A Karnataka Temples Heritage Visit.
The
presiding Deity : Sri Kasi Viswanatha.
The
salient features of this temple are….
This
Kashi Vishweshwara Temple is a stellate planned structure. The sanctum is
on a 2 feet raised jagati. The exquisitely carved molding are on the ceiling of
entrance porch. It is an ekakuta temple and has short vesara vimana. It has a
garbhagriha, sukanasi, navrang and mukha mantapa, which is completely missing
today. However the whole temple was in ruins, presently it is being restored to
its original form by the Archaeological Survey of India.
The
walls and interiors are less ornamented but contains usual architectural
features. The main doorway has usual shaiva dwarapalakas on either sides. Inside
the navrang, there are five niches once had different God statues like
Ganesha, Saptamatrika, Surya, Kumara Vishnu. Now kept outside. It is believed
that this temple was built during Hoysala King Narasimha-III.
INSCRIPTIONS
The
1276 CE inscriptions records grants to the temple.
