Thiruthevanarthogai, Deiva Nayaga Perumal Temple / Madhava Perumal Temple, Keezhachalai, Thirunangur, Mayiladuthurai District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Madhava Perumal Temple was a part of Temples Visit, in and around Sirkazhi on 15th September.  After Sri Purushothama Perumal’s darshan, our next destination was to the Thiruvali Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal Temple. This is the 38th Divya Desam of 108 Divya Desam temples dedicated  to Vishnu and mangalasasanam ( 10 Pasurams ) was done by Thirumangai Alwar. Also this is one of the 11 Divya Desams, also called as  Thirunangur Tirupathis around Thirunangur. On the way to Thiruvali, we came across this place and visited this temple without knowing it is a Divya Desam.

Some of the important features of the temple are…
The temple is very small. The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam and Garudalwar sannadhi are in front. A corridor like Mandapa is connecting sanctum sanctorum entrance and the Rajagopuram. Sri Anjaneyar is on the left side entrance. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. Moolavar Sri Deiva Nayaga Perumal is with Sridevi and Bhoodevi in standing Posture. Urchavars are in the artha mandapam. Thayar Sri Kadalamagal Nachiyar / Sri Samudra Nayagi ( Madhava Nayagi ) is in a separate sannadhi.

ARCHITECTURE.
The Adhistanam is a simple pathabhandha adhistanam. The prastaram is of kapotha style and yazhivari is above the prastaram. A 2 tier Vimana is over the sanctum sanctorum called sobana vimana. It was claimed that this temple was built during Chozha period and latter expanded during Vijayanagaras and Nayak period ( 1509 CE ) inscriptions are found.


LEGEND
As per the legend Lord Vishnu married Goddess Lakshmi who emerged out of the Thiruparkadal at this place. The Deva's came in a group ( Thogai in Tamil) this place is called Thiru Thevanar Thogai ( Thiruthevanarthogai ). It is situated on the South bank of river Manni, a branch of River Kaveri.

In  another legend Lord Shiva danced in anger for the death of his consort in the Yagna of Daksha. In the process of  dance his lock of hair touches the ground 11 rudras ie, 11 form of Shivas appeared. Devas afraid of this  and sought help of Lord Vishnu. Shiva’s anger reduced after seeing Vishnu and asked him to appear in 11 places in different forms. Vishnu appeared in 11 temples in different forms around Thirunangur. These Rudras are called as Ekadasa Rudras or King of Devas.  
  
ANNUAL CELEBRATION
Thirumangai Alwar Mangalasasanam utsava festival will be celebrated as Garuda seva in the Tamil month Thai ( January - February ). Respective Urchavars will be brought from all 11 Thirunangur Thirupathis  on the Garuda Vahana and Thirumangai Alwar in Hamsa Vahana to Thirunangur ( From Thirunagari ) Manimaadakkoil. Thirumangai Alwar’s all pasurams will be recited on the occasion. The Urchava murtis of Thirumangai Alwar with his consort Kumudhavalli Nachiyar will be taken in palanquin to all the 11 Thirunangur Divya Desams and respective pasurams will be recited in each temple. The Garuda seva Utsavam is a 3 days festival, which  starts with Manjal kuliyal Utsavam on the first day. Lakhs of devotees in and around Sirkazhi used to attend the festival.

The temple will be kept opened between 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

This place Keezhachalai is about 2 KM from Thiruvali Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple.
Keezhachalai is about 8 KM from Sirkazhi, 33 KM from Chidambaram. Nearest Railway station is Sirkazhi.
