Theertheswarar Temple, Sarva Theertham Kulam, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

The list of Shiva temples in and around Kanchipuram with link to GooglePhotos, Location link on Google Map and Location QR Code are posted already in this blog. The visit to the above Temples on the banks of Sarva Theertham  ( Kulam ) was as a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21^st February 2020. This temple on the western banks of Sarva Theertham Kulam and facing east. Thanks to Babu Mano for the photos. 

The 18^th Century saint Sri Sivagnana Swamigal, had written the sthala purana of this temple in Kanchi puranam, under Sarva Theertha padalam.

1626 தீர்த்தேச்சரம்

      பரவினோர் விழைந்த காமப் பயனளித் தருளுங் காமேச்

      சரநகர் வந்த வாறு சாற்றினம் இதன்பா லாகப்

      பரிதிமான் தடந்தேர் ஈர்க்கும் பரிக்குளம் பிடறிப் போய

      திருமணிச் சிகரக் கோயில் வயங்குதீர்த் தேச முண்டால்  

1627   குழையுதை நெடுங்கண் செவ்வாய்க் கோமளச் சயிலப் பாவை

      விழைதகத் தழுவு மாற்றால் விரிசினைத் தனிமா நீழல்

      மழைதவழ் மிடற்றுப் புத்தேள் வருகென விளித்த ஞான்று

      தழைபுனல் தலைவ னோடுந் தடநதி வடிவந் தாங்கி  

1628   விழுமிய அண்டத் துள்ளும் புறத்தினும் விரவுந் தீர்த்தம்

      முழுவதுந் திரண்டு காஞ்சி முதுநகர்க் குடபால் எய்திக்

      கொழுமலர்த் தனிமா நீழற் குழகைன உமையாள் வல்லைத்

      தழுவலும் எழுந்த வேகம் தணிந்துமீட் டல்கி யங்கண்  

1629   கைலமதிக் குழவி மோலிக் கடவுளைத் தீர்த்த ராசத்

      தலைவனென் றிருத்தி வீங்குந் தடம்புனல் அருவிக் குன்றச்

      சிலைநுதற் பிடியி னோடு மருச்சனை திருந்தச் செய்ய

      மலையினைக் குழைத்த திண்டோள் வள்ளலு மெதிரே நின்று  

1630   இற்றைஞான் றாதி யாக நும்மிடத் தெய்தி மூழ்கிச்

      செற்றமில் முனிவர் விண்ணோர் தென்ன்புல வாணர் தங்கட்

      குற்றநீர்க் கடன்கள் நல்கி உறுபொருள் உறுநர்க் கீந்து

      மற்றெமை ஈண்டுக் காண்போர் முத்தியின் மருவச் செய்கேம்  

1631   இன்னமும் புகலக் கேண்மின் எனப்பெருங் கருணை கூர்ந்து

      தன்னிகர் பிராட்டி யாரத் தழீஇக்கொளச் செய்த வாற்றால்

      அன்னதற் கியையக் கைம்மா றளிப்பவன் என்ன அங்கேழ்ப்

      பொன்னவிர் சடையோன் தீர்த்தப் புனல்களுக் கிதனை நாட்டும்  

1632   கொலைகளிற் கொடுமை சான்ற பார்ப்பனக் கொலைவல் வரீக்

      கொலைகருக் கொலைதாய் தந்தைக் கொலைக்கவை கோட்டு நல்லான்

      கொலைமுதல் பிறவும் நீங்குங் கொடுவினைப் பாசத் தெவ்வைக்

      கொலைபுரி மரபின் நும்பாற் குடைந்தெமைத் தொழப்பெற் றோர்க்கே

1633   முரிதிரை சுருட்டு தெண்ணீர் நும்மிடத் தொருகால் மூழ்கி

      விரிபுகழ்த் திருவே கம்பம் விழைதகக் காணப் பெற்றோர்

      உரிமையின் ஆன்ற நாற்கூற் றுறுதியும் பெறுவர் மீள

      அரிவையர் அகட்டுள் எய்தா தெம்மருள் அகட்டின் வாழ்வார்  

1634   என்றிது நிறுவித் தீர்த்த நாயகன் இலிங்கத் துற்றான்

      அன்றுதொட் டங்கண் மேவும் அலங்கொளிச் சருவ தீர்த்தத்

      தின்றடம் புனலின் மூழ்கி எழில்வளர் திருவே கம்பஞ்

      சென்றுகண் டிறைஞ்சப் பெற்றோர் செய்கொலைத் தீமை தீர்வார்  

1635 சருவ தீர்த்தப் பெருமை

      தந்தையைச் செகுத்த பாவம் தணந்தனன் பிரக லாதன்

      முந்தையோர்ச் செகுத்த பாவம் வீடணன் முழுதுந் தீர்ந்தான்

      மைந்துடைப் பரசி ராமன் வரீரை வைதத்த பாவஞ்

      சிந்தினன் சருவ தீர்த்தச் செழும்புனல் குடைந்த பேற்றால்  

1636   அருச்சுனன் துரோண மேலோ னாதியர்ச் செகுத்த பாவம்

      பிரித்தனன் அசுவத் தாமன் பெறுங்கருச் சிதைத்த பாவம்

      இரித்தனன் உலகில் இன்னும் எண்ணிலர் சருவ தீர்த்தத்

      திருப்புனல் குடைந்து தீராக் கொலைவினைத் தீமை தீர்ந்தார்  

1637   சிலைநுதல் மகளிர் மைந்தர் இன்றுமத் தெண்ணீர் மூழ்கின்

      கொலைவினைப் பாவந் தீர்வார் குரைகடற் பரப்பென் றெண்ணித்

      தலைவரு முகிலின் கூட்டந் தனித்தனி வாய்ம டுக்கும்

      அலைபுனல் சருவ தீர்த்தப் பெருமையார் அளக்கற் பாலார்

Some of the important details are...

The temple is on the western side of the Sarvatheertam Kulam and Facing east with and entrance arch. Stucco image of Lord Shiva on the entrance arch. Balipeedam and nandhi are in the Mukha mandapam. Moolavar in the sanctum sanctorum is little small.

Nagars, Vinayagar  are in the prakaram. The temple consists of sanctorum consists of Sanctum, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. An ekathala Vesara Vimana with 4 nasis is over the sanctum. In the griva koshtam, stucco images of  Dakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu and Brahma. 8 Rishabas and 4 Nandhis are in the grivam. It is believed that the original temple was built during 7^th to 8^th Century Pallava period.

LEGEND:

As per the legend All the rivers on the earth came to sarva Theertham and used for Abhishekam of Lord Shiva of this temple. Hence Lord Shiva is called as Theertheswarar.

Since oru kala pooja is conducted the opening and closing times are unpredictable.  

HOW TO REACH:

This temple is on the bank of Sarva Theertham Kulam and Kanchipuram to Vellore Road.

About 2.4 KM from Kanchipuram Bus stand, 2.0 KM from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 27 KM from Arakkonam Railway Junction and 75 KM from Chennai Central Station.

Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Nearest Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
