Ukkamperumbakkam, Shiva Temple and Saptamatrikas, Ukkam Perumbakkam, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Shiva temple at Ukkam Perumbakkam was a part of visit to the Temples and heritage sites around Kanchipuram, scheduled on 10^th July 2021.

This temple was identified for the visit through Google maps.  From the image we found that the temple was built with Padabandha Adhisthana  with a three patta kumuda and facing east. The super structure above the adhisthana was built with bricks. Initially we thought the temple may belongs to Chozha Period. A Shiva Linga is in the sanctum and still under worship. A Vinayagar and a damaged Chandikeswarar are kept in front of the Temple.

It was a surprise to see Saptamatrikas panel and a Shiva Linga found on the back side of the Temple. Saptamatrikas panel is facing North. As per the iconography ( position of hands, magudas ) of the Saptamatrikas, this may belongs to Pallava period. The head of the Veerabhadra is seen from the ground. Lord Shiva’s name is not known. 

The poojas are done by a Lady called Anusuya. She used do “Kuri Solluthal – குறி சொல்லுதல்”, in the temple on Tuesdays and Sundays. The Village representative Mr Thirumalai may be contacted for further details.

The Place Ukkam Perumbakkam is about a KM, off Kanchipuram to Vandavasi main road.

Ukkam Perumbakkam is 18 KM from Kanchipuram, 22 KM from Uthiramerur, 26 KM from Vandavasi and 94 KM from Chennai.

Nearest railway station is Kanchipuram.
