The Visit to this Sri Kailasanathar Temple at Chettipunyam was a part of Shiva and Vishnu temples Visit on east and west side of  Grand Southern Trunk   Road ( GST Road ) from Old Perungalathur to Chettipunyam on 14th November 2021. This Shiva temple about 100 meters  from Chettipunyam Sri Yoga Hayagreevar temple. Even though this place is very much popular for Yoga Hayagreevar Temple, the existence of this Shiva temple may not be known to many people.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…..

The temple is facing east with an entrance on the east and south side. A Deepa Sthambam is in front of the temple. Balipeedam and Rishabam / Idabam are in the meta colour Sheet mandapam. The Koshtas are empty. Vinayagar and Balamurugan are at the entrance of the sanctum Sanctorum. Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing south.

Vinayagar, Nagars, Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi peedam, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar, Navagrahas and a Shiva Lingam are in the praharam.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a 3 anga adhistanam. From adhistanam to prastaram was built with stone.  An Eka thala stucco Nagara Vimana is above the sanctum sanctorum. There is no images on the Vimanam. Painting of Dakshinamurthy is near the south side deva koshtam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTION

The type of construction is very much similar to Sri Yoga Hayagreevar temple at Chettipunyam. Since that Hayagreevar temple is of 400 years old, this temple may also be 400 years old and both are constructed during the same period.

The temple was in ruined condition and the same was reconstructed and maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted during recent years.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS

Apart from regular oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri and Vinayagar chaturthi days.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 09.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

Chettipunyam is about 5 KM from Singaperumal Koil, 9 KM from Chengalpattu, 28 KM from Tambaram and 55 KM from Chennai Central.

Nearest Railway station is Singaperumal Koil and Railway Junction is Chengalpattu.
