The visit to this Puliyur Tirthankara was a part of “Jain Tirthankara Loose Sculpture, Shiva Temples and an Amman
Temple Visit” at Puliyur, Pakkam, and Kilambakkam of Tiruvallur/Thiruvallur
District, on 13th February 2022. Thanks to Mr. Sugumaran Dhananjayan, a Member of Ahimsa Walk, who came along with me to show this Tirthankara, which
is lesser known even to the Tamil Jain community.
This
Tirthankara, Mahavira Tirthankara, is
kept on one of the streets of Puliyur village, and locals worship him as Buddha.
The Mahavira Tirthankara is being taken
care of by the 3 families on the same street and is searching for a permanent
place to be installed.
This
Tirthankara is in the sitting ardha padmasana posture. Whisk bearers /samaratharis
are shown near the shoulder. A prabhai, which starts with aravaLi (Chakra), is
on the back of the head, and mukkudai is also shown above the head. Ashoka
creepers are shown like Thiruvasi.
மகாவீர
தீர்த்தங்கரர், புலியூர்..திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் புலியூர்
கிராமத்தின் ஒரு வீதியில், தண்ணீர் குழாய் அருகே இந்த மகாவீரர் சிற்பம் கிழக்கு நோக்கி
வைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. உள்ளூர்வாசிகளால் புத்தர் என அழைக்கபடுகின்றார். கிராமத்தார்
இந்துக்களுக்கு முக்கியமான தினங்களில் வழிபடுகின்றனர். அவ்வீதியில் இருக்கும் மூன்று
குடும்பத்தாரால் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றது. ஒருநிலையான இடத்தில் பிரதிஷ்டைசெய்ய முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு உள்ளது.
மகாவீர தீர்த்தங்ககரர் தியான
நிலையில் அர்த பத்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து இருக்கின்றார். தலையின் பின்புறம் அறவாளியுடன்பிரபையும்,
தலைக்கு மேலே முக்குடையும் காணப்படுகின்றது. தோளின் இருபுறமும் சாமரதாரிகள் சிறிய அளவில்
காட்டப்பட்டு இருக்கின்றனர். திருவாசிபோன்ற அமைப்பில் அசோகக்கொடி காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது.
HOW TO REACHThis place, Puliyur, is about 4.1 km from Alathur, 6 km from Kilambakkam, 7.4 km from Thiruninravur, 14.5 km from Thiruvallur, 20 km from Poonamallee, and 40 KM from Chennai Central. The nearest big Railway station is Thiruvallur.
