The
visit to this Sri Balathandayuthapani Temple was a part of “Shiva, Murugan and
Siddhar Temples Visit in and around Vyasarpadi” on 21st August 2022.
Vyasarpadi believed to be named after the Vyasa Maharishi, who stayed and
worshiped Shri Shiva of this temple. Earlier the same was called as Banupuram (
Suriyan ), since Sun ( Suriyan ) god worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. When
searched in the google browser about the famous temples of Vyasarpadi, Google
showed me this Murugan temple. This place was also called as Kandapuri.

INSCRIPTIONS
As
per the inscription the temple was established on 21st August 1958
by L Ganesa Mudaliar. It was told that
Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar visited this temple and called this place as “Kandapuri”.
Maha
Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 17th June 2018.
The
temple is under the control of Tamil Nadu HR & CE Department.
LEGENDS
It
is believed this temple is equivalent to Murugan’s arupadai veedu temples. Since
Murugan as Baladhanayuthani in this temple is considered as Palani, where
Murugan stands alone. Usually Murugan as
Balathandayuthapani stands on Hill after a conflict with his father for not
giving the “Gnanapazham”. But in this temple Murugan is with Valli Devasena as
Balathandayuthapani, is an unique feature of this temple.
POOJAS AND
CELEBRATIONS
Apart
from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Vaikasi Visakam, Kandar
Sashti, Kiruthigai Nakshatra days, Tuesdays and Fridays.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
The
temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to
