"அன்னையே அருளா லயம் அதாய் அடியார்
        அகத்துளே அறிவுரு வாகி
முன்னை மாமறையும் மோனமாய் மொழிந்த
        முடிவில்லா பரம்பொருள் தன்னை
பன்னுசீர் வியாசர் பாடியில் வளரும்
        பரமனே பத்திரக் கரைத்தொஒய்
என்னை நீ ஆள்வாய் சிவப்பிரகாச
        இறைவநல் தேசிக மணியே "

The Life history of Arulmigu Karapaathira Sivaprakasa Swamigal… Sivaprakasa Swamigal was born to Muthuswami and Sengamalam  of Veera Saivam / Lingayat family at Thiruporur, as a 4th Son. When he was 16 years old, he lost his father and moved to Chennai with his mother, one of his brothers and sister-in-law. At Chennai, Swamigal got into the betel leaf wholesale auction business. He handed over all the earnings to his brother. He met some of Easoor Satchidananda's disciples and started reading his books. Then he met his Guru Rathina Desigar. He was taught the teachings of Ramalinga Vallalar’s Pasithiru, Thanithiru, Vizhithiru, Ribhu Gita, Thirukkural, Vedantham and other spiritual books. Also, he practiced meditation and reached the stage of  Samadhi. This made his mother frightened and another practitioner consoled his mother, that Swamigal was under deep meditation. He did his practice of Samadhi on the beach surrounded by casuarina trees.

In the meantime he met his Guru and told his wish of renouncing, for this his Guru advised Swamigal to renounce within. Then he continued the business without any attachment. His mother wants her son to get married. His brother also scolds him that, he took a loan for the betel leaves business believing  that he would become a businessman. This hurts Swamiji, told his mother that he will be in the house for 3 days, and after that, he will go out to earn money for his marriage. That day came, Swamiji left the house and went to Thiruvotriyur to pray to Pattinathar. From then removed all the clothes and started wearing only the Komanam / man’s lion cloth at the age of 19. In the meantime, his brother asked to return back the money which he invested in the business. Swamiji asked his brother to come to Thiruporur and return back the money after getting it from his elder brother. When his elder brother asked to leave the sainthood, Swamiji, argued with his brother to take the sainthood. Finally, the brother gave up and asked to allow him to feed, which was declined by the Swamiji who said he would manage with bhiksha. He asked to feed him with 3 kavala food in his hands. ( Karam – Hand ) Since Swamiji used only the hands as the vessel, Called Karapaathtira Sivaprakasa Swamigal.

Swamigal came to Thiruvanmiyur and stayed in an ashram where he took only 3 Kavala food in hands fed by his devotees. He was in a deep meditation that he didn’t not have the feeling of snake crawled over his body. He used to meditate under a tree in the paddy fields or in a graveyard in the Thiruvanmiyur area. During the process of meditation, he was affected by dysentery and a Doctor devotee came to his rescue.

Swamigal moved to Vepery / Choolai  Chengalvarayar Thottam, one of his disciple’s places. He came out of mounam and started preaching Thathuvaneri, Athivitha Nilai, Gnanam, etc, under a Kichchili tree. Large numbers of disciples gathered in this place. Devotees in large numbers visited him on Pournami/Full Moon days. Without telling anybody he traveled to Podhigai Hills and stayed there for about 3 years in an ashram. Some of his Devotees persuaded him and brought him back to Chennai.

This time, the disciple who brought him back to Chennai, created an ashram where he used to meditate under the Magizham tree. During meditation 3 times he went samadhi state for 48 days and in a deep meditation state a snake bite didn’t harm him. Meetings were held at the ashram and Swamiji’s fame spread like anything. Many people visited the ashram to get Upadesa. "A 5-day function" as the discourse Thiruvizha was conducted in which many practitioners participated and exchanged their knowledge. Sri Sivaprakasa Swamigal had written  books on “Anma Puranam” and  “Thathuvatha Santhanam”

Later Swamiji created an ashram called “Anandashram” also known as “Samiyar Thottam” for himself and the other sadhus at Vyasarpadi. The land purchased has a pond with water and a Nagaraja temple. The ashram has many rooms to practice meditation for his disciples. The present state was later developed by his disciples.
