Sri Rajagopalaswamy Temple and Sri Dharmeswarar Temple at Manimangalam, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

It was planned to cover 4 temples in Manimangalam, and we could cover only the Perumal and Shiva Temples. The Manimangalam was called Chathur Vedi Mangalam during the Chozha period. The place around the village is plain with paddy fields. Hope this was the place where the war between Pulikesi and Pallavas took place, as described by Kalki.

SRI RAJAGOPALASWAMY  TEMPLE, AT MANIMANGALAM

Moolavar   : Sri Rajagopala Swamy.

Thayar      : Sri Sengamalavalli Thayar.

Some of the important features of this temple are…

There is a 4-pillar mandapam at the entrance. There is no Rajagopuram and only an entrance arch with stucco images of Perumal. Balipeedam and Dwajasthambam are immediately after the entrance. The special attraction of this temple is the moolavar’s conch, and the disc positions are interchanged.

Sri Sengamalavalli Thayar and Sri Andal Sannadhi are in the outer praharam. There is also a 4-pillar mandapam in front of the thayar sannidhi.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, artha mandapam, and maha mandapam. The maha mandapam is constructed in front of the ardha Mandapam with entrances from the north side and the south side. The Moolavar vimanam is without many stucco images. 

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The temple was constructed during the Chozha period, and the temple walls have many inscriptions. The temple was closed during our visit, and we could not see the details of the inside temple.

Since the oru kala pooja is performed, the Battar nearby may be called for darshan.

SRI DHARMESWARAR TEMPLE
This Shiva temple is on the east side of the village and under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India, with a fence around the temple complex. The temple is maintained in very good condition.  Balipedam, Rishabam, and Ambal Sannadhi are constructed in front of the temple's east side wall. Nandhavanam is also developed in front of the temple compared to my earlier visit.
