Some of the important details are…
The Temple is facing west with a temple Tank in front. The Rajagopuram is of 3 tiers and Anjaneyar Sannadhi is at the front on the side. Balipeedam, Garudalwar, and Dwajasthambam are in front of the sanctum
Sanctorum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of a a rectangular, Artha mandapam and a Mukha mandapam. Moolavar Sri Varadharaja Perumal is in a standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi in the sanctum.
In the Mukha mandapam stucco statues of Perumal’s 10 avatars and a Buddha. It was believed that Buddha was another incarnation of Perumal. Thayar on the right on an elevated adhistanam.
HISTORY & INSCRIPTION
There are 9 Inscriptions of the Chozha, Pandya, and
Vanakovaraiyars period on the walls of the sanctum. The temple was constructed
by Ponparapina Vanakovaraiyar and Punniyavaati for the welfare of their family
in the 12th century.
LEGENDS
The story of the temple goes like this. Once this place was
very fertile and people had forgotten to worship Lord Vishnu. To teach the lesson
Vishnu asked Varuna the god of Rain to stop in that area. People realized their
fault and prayed to Vishnu. Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of a dark cloud
and rained. The area became like before.
