Napier Bridge and Cooum River Mouth where it joins with Bay of Bengal ( Cooum Delta ), Chennai, Chennai District, Tamil Nadu.

 31st December 2016
The Bridge was constructed by Francis Napier, who held the office of Governor of Madras Presidency, in 1869 to connect Fort St George with Marina or the Nawab Palace. It is made of steel and has six spans. The bridge is 138 meters long and 9.75 meters wide. Many times, it was struck by lightning, and India’s first lighting structure was constructed. The structure now stands tall without knowing its purpose.

The river was very wide at the mouth, and High tides pushed the sand towards the mouth, which was dredged regularly. We could see the water changing color from brackish to blue.
