On
24th December 2017, had went to Kanchipuram in connection with personal work and my Cousin's brother’s son took me to three Shiva temples.
These temples may not be popular & Heritage temples of Kanchipuram. This Sri Nagareeswarar temple is on Vallal Pachaiyappan Stree, Ennaikaran, on the way to
Bus stand from the Collectorate office.
Moolavar: Sri Nagareeswarar
Some of the important features of this temple are...
The
temple faces east with an entrance arch on the east side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are immediately after the entrance in a meta-color sheet shed. In koshtam
Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Thirumal, Brahma and Durgai.
In
the prakaram sannadhi for Anjaneyar, Vallabha Ganapati, Valli Devasena
Arumugar, Chandikeswarar, Kala bhairava, Mahavishnu and Suryan.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, Antarala, and Ardha Mandapam. The temple was built with brick and seems to be a later-period construction. A Two tier Nagara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The
Gurukkal claims that this temple belongs
to the Chozha period and to prove the same, there is no evidence in the form of inscriptions available at the temple. But the Kosta murtis belong to the Chozha Period.
LEGEND
As per the legend, Moolavar was installed by Indran and this is a pava ( sin ) Vimochana Sthalam. Lord Shiva is responsible for the creation of this City / Nagar Kanchipuram and hence called Nagareeswarar.

The
temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.30 hrs to
20.30 Hrs
HOW TO REACH:
Just
2 KM from Kanchipuram bus terminus and on the way to Bus Terminus to
Collectorate office.
