When
I expressed my intention of Visiting Koolamandal, Perunagar and Devikapuram, Mr
Manoj Chakravarthy and his aunt family also joined with me on 26th May
2019. After our visit to Koozhamandal Sri Pesum Perumal Temple and Sri
Gangaikonda Choleswarar Temple, Our next destination was to Perunagar. The
temple is being called as Brameesar Koil, on the north east corner of the
village. Originally this place was called as Brahmanagar ( Brahma worshiped
Lord Shiva of this temple ) and latter it turned to the present name of
Perunagar.

Some
of the important features of this temple are…
The
temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram on the south side. Sri Chakra
Vinayagar is immediately after the Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Rishabam are in front of the temple on the east side. On the Left of Rishabam, Ishta Siddheshwar Temple and Temple tank. On the right is the Navagraha sannidhi.
There is a 3 tier mini Rajagopuram at the entrance of Sanctum Sanctorum.
Urchavars and Swamy & Amman jewels safe room are in the
artha mandapam. On the east side of the artha mandapam wall there is a jolly work. Dwarapalakas, a balipeedam and Rishabam are
before the jolly work. In the koshtam, Vinayagar,
Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.
In
the prakara sannadhi for Chandikeswarar, Naalvar, Ashta Nagas (Anandhan, Vasuki, Karkodakan, Sarangan, Padman, Maha
Padman and Kulikan ), Saptamatrikas. Maha Ganapathy, Lingothbavar, and Valli Devasena with Subramaniyar, Bhairavar and Suryan. In the 2nd Prakaram sannadhi for Jyeshta Devi
( Thavvai), Durgai Amman ( 16th Century ), Somaskandar ( 11th
Century ) and Chandikeswarar. In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Nandhavanam, Sri

south built in Temple like sannadhi. ( In koshtam Brahmi, Kaumari and Durgai ).
ARCHITECTURE
The temple complex consists of sanctum, Antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. Moolavar is on a square avudayar. Pakkaththu Amman or Sanctum Amman is at the entrance of the sanctum. The artha mandapa is being supported by 8 pillars.
The Sanctum is of semicircular shape, up to prastaram. sanctum was built with stone ( light Green Colour ) and Vimana is of Gajabrushta Vimana, built with brick and mortar.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
Since the period of construction is not known, but the temple was constructed
by a small regional king Villi Thirikaththarayan under Kadava / Pallava King KoperunSingan ( 1250 CE ), the inscription is
not mentioning any year. So it was concluded that the temple was constructed
before 13th Century. There are 33 inscriptions in Tamil and Grantam are inscribed in this
temple. The inscriptions belongs to Pandyas Kerala Kulasekara
Pandyan, Maravarman Kulasekaran, Sundara Pandiyan-IV, Kadavar King KoperunSingan, Chozha King Rajarajan-II, Kulothungan-III, Rajarajan-III, Sambuvarayar.. Vikrama
Chozha Sambuvarayar, and Vijayanagaras, Hariharan-II, Virupaksha, Bhoopathy
Rayar, Veera Prathapa pukka Maharayar, Krishna Deva Maharayar, Achutha deva
maharayar, Sadasiva maharayar.
As
per the inscription this place was called as Nithavinotha Chathurvedi mangalam,
Perunagar and Shiva was called as
Perunagar Nattu Perunagar Aludayar Bramiswararmudaya Nayanar,
Bramiswaramudaya Mahadevar Perarularar Koil, The Inscriptions mainly speaks
about gift made to this temple in terms, of money Gold, Land, towards burning of
perpetual lamps, supplying of flower, ghee, Oil, Milk to this temple.
Regular
poojas are done as per Kamika agama, apart from regulars poojas, Pradosham,
Chithirai Appar Swamy festival, Vaikasi Nataraja Abhishekam, Thirugnanasambandar
Guru Pooja, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Navratri, Aippasi annabhishekam, Arudra
Darisanam, Mahashivaratri, 14 Days Brahmotsavam are celebrated in a grand
manner.

The
temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to
19.00 Hrs
HOW TO REACH:
The
temple is about 750 meters off main road.
Town
bus route no 35 from Kanchipuram to Manamathi passes through this village. All
the buses from Kanchipuram to Vandavasi passes through this Village.
The temple is 21
KM from Kanchipuram, 16 KM from Vandavasi and 107 KM from Chennai
