3rd November 2019.
The visit to this small temple is a part of 71st Ahimsa
walk organized by the Tamil Samanars ( Jains ) on 3rd November
2019. After the darshan of Adinath
Tirthankara at Mudhu Nagar, Cuddalore OT ( Old Town ), had been to this
temple. It was told that there was a temple with an arch on the road side. The
land around was empty. The Tirthankara
idol is under a tree in sitting posture facing west. It was not like bas relief
on a slab stone, instead it made of single stone with the dimension of 5.5 feet
high. Now the area around the temple was completely
encroached and a lane was left. The lane too has become a bar after sunset.
The Tirthankara was not spared from the idol thieves. It was
told that few years before about 20 people tried to lift the idol and they were
chased away by the local people. In the process the left leg of the Tirthankara
was damaged. They started worship this Tirthankara and named him as “Chathirathu
Anna”. Vibhuti was applied over the body, wrapped dothi and animals were also sacrificed.
After pacified about killing of animals
/ scarification, the locals stopped the same slowly. The locals also built a temple and reluctant to
accept money from others. After continuous persuasion through the Local leader they accepted money from the Jains for providing the roof.
The pooja to the Tirthankara is being taken over by Mr
Sribalan, ( 9442694329 ), one of the Jain living in that area.
