Sri Muthappa Swami Temple and Sri Karuppasamy Temple , Thiruvottiyur, Eesanya murthi Koil Street, Tiruvottiyur, Chennai Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Muthappa Swami and Sri Karuppasamy Temple was a part of the “Hero Stones and Siddhars of Tiruvottiyur Visit”, on 11th September 2022.  This visit was mainly focused on the Siddhar Jeeva Samadhi Temples of Tiruvottiyur.

While searching for Hero Stones and Siddhars of Tiruvottiyur, I came across this temple on Google Maps. Initially, I thought, Muthappar was a Hero, who held a sword in his right hand. Slowly I learned that they are the three forms of Hindu deities in the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Deities : Sri Muthappar, Sri Karuppasamy & Prapanchanathar.

Some of the salient features of this temple ...
This temple is facing east. Sri Muthappar and Sri Karuppasamy are in the sanctum in a standing posture side by side. Thiruman is on the forehead of Sri Muthappar and Vibhuti is on the forehead of Karuppasamy. Muthappar is holding a sword in his right hand and his left hand is varada hastam. Karuppasamy's right hand is in Abhaya hasta and his left hand is holding a spear / Vel. A Shiva Lingam ( Prapancha Nathar ) with Rishabam is installed between them.

In praharam Bala Tripura Sundari ( Childhood stage ), Shanmuganathar as Adhi Siddhan ( Young age ) in thapas kolam, Vinayagar  as Raja Karpaga Ganapathy, ( legs without touching the ground – holding a Shiva Lingam in the right hand  ), Maha Lakshmi & Sakthi and Harihara Nandhini as Husband and wife.
