As per the legend, Pundarika maharishi wished to have the darshan of Mahavishnu. When he entered in to the shrine, he found a Shiva Lingam instead of Mahavishnu. With a disappointment he returned back. On the way Maha Vishnu in the form of an old man directed him once again in to the shrine saying that that Mahavishnu is only inside. When Pundarika maharishi entered inside the shrine and found Mahavishnu is in abhaya varada hastam. This legend signifies that Mahavishnu  will give darsham to his devotees in all the places. The actual meaning of prasannam in Tamil language is appear, appearance, katchi to devotee’s wishes.
