Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple / Arulmigu Sri Om Sakthi Vinayagar Alayam, West Namasivaya Puram, Aminjikarai, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple at Aminjikarai was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman, and Siddhar Jeeva Samadhi Temples Visit” – in Aminjikarai and Perambur on 09th October 2022.

This temple is on the south banks of Holy River Cooum, in West Namasivaya Puram in Aminjikarai, right under the Choolaimedu High Road Bridge. This Shiva Temple is marked as Sri Om Sakthi Vinayagar Temple, on Google Maps.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple faces east with an entrance on the south side. Shiva & Parvati’s Stucco Images are on the top of the Terrace, which can be viewed from the bridge / Road. In Sanctum Sanctorum Moolavar Sri Sundareswarar is on a raised pedestal. Rishabam and balipeedam are in front of the sanctum. Stucco Dwarapalakas are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Ambal is not in a separate sannidhi but installed in the Moolavar sanctum itself facing south. On the left is the Sakthi Vinayagar and right is the Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar. In Koshtam Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Durga.

In Praharam, Anjaneyar, Nagars with Vinayagar under Peepal Tree, Chandikeswarar, Navagrahas, Bairavar, and Saneeswarar.


ARCHITECTURE
Sri Sakthi Vinayagar, Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar, and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar sanctums are constructed in a straight line and side by side, abutting each other. Hence adhistanam and bhitti are not separate. The Adhistanam is of simple pada bandha adhistanam on an Upa-Peedam.

An Eka tala Vesara Vimanam is on Shiva Sannidhi and eka tala Nagara Vimanas are on Sri Om Sakthi Vinayagar Sannidhi and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar sannidhi.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Along with the thirupani to Sri Sakti Vinayagar Temple, the north side Compound was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 38500, of which Rs 25000 was gifted by the Tamil Nadu Government, HR & CE Department.

Ashta Bandhana Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 29th July 2017.



LEGENDS
The temple is in the Esanya direction of West Namasivaya Puram, which is an auspicious place for a Shiva temple. Several mystic incidents happened in this temple. A Siddhar came to this temple and advised to do Abhishekam with tender coconut water on Monday between 07.30 hrs to 09.00 hrs. It is believed that the prayers will be answered for good marriage alliance and child boon after doing coconut abhishekam on 3 consecutive Mondays.

To get rid of any chronic problems in life the Siddhar advised to circumambulate the temple and chant “Om Chandikeswaraya Namaha” and “Om Nama shivaya namaha” five times. Doing so continuously helps to solve the problems permanently.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Oru kala Pooja, special poojas are conducted on Navratri, Pournami, Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Annabhishekam, Panguni Uthiram, Thaipoosam, Thirukalyanam in April Month, Sankatahara Chaturthi, Vinayagar Chaturthi etc,.

Meenakshi Magalir Vazhipattu mandram takes an important role in organizing most of the functions.

The temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

HOW TO REACH
The temple is on Choolaimedu High Road and the south end of Cooum bridge. Easily identified with Stucco images of Shiva and Parvati installed on the top of the terrace.
The temple is 1.4 KM from Pachaiyappa’s College 3 KM from Pachaiyappas Metro Station, 6.2 KM from Chennai Central Station, and 6.4 KM from Koyambedu Bus Terminus.
The Nearest Railway station is 600 Meters from Nungambakkam Railway Station.
