Sri Kariyamanika Perumal Kovil with Chozha period inscription / ஶ்ரீ கரியமாணிக்க பெருமாள் கோவில், Karunilam / Karambur, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Chozha period inscription Tablet and Sri Kariyamanika Perumal Kovil at Karunilam / Karambur was a part of “Shiva & Vishnu Temples, Hero Stones and Heritage Sites Visit”, from Ponmar to Karunilam, near Guduvanchery, in Chengalpattu District on 24th October 2023. 



This place was called as Karumur during 10th Century and the has got corrupted to the present name of Karambur as part of Karunilam.

Consort    : Sri Sridevi and Bhudevi

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
This temple is facing east with a Garudathoon on the road. Garudan is in-front of sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar in the sanctum is with Sridevi and Bhudevi. Various form of Maha Vishnu are in the Koshtam. Utsava murti with Sridevi and Bhudevi are in front Moolavar.

ARCHITECTURE
The complete temple was built with bricks. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a open metacolour sheet mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctum is on a adhistanam and the sanctum sanctorum is in rectangular shape. Vimanam is plain like kerala style.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
A 10th Century inscription tablet was installed in-front of the temple. As per the inscription this place was called as Karumur and the God  Maha Vishnu was called as Periya nayanar.

The incomplete and partially damaged inscription records the gift of 90 kadi paddy  by Olivenbadi, a merchant.

Apart from orukala Poojas, special poojas are conducted Vaikunta ekadasi, Ramar and Krishna Jayanthi, Navaratri with Utsavars procession, etc.


THE TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since oru kala Pooja is conducted, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH
This place Karunilam / Karambur is about 6 KM from Maraimalai Nagar, 7 KM from Singaperumalkoil,  18 KM from Guduvancheri and 58 KM from Chennai Central station.
Nearest Railway Station is Maraimalai Nagar.
