The visit to this temple
was a part of 73rd Ahimsa walk organized by the Tamil Jains / சமணர்கள் at
Ambur on 5th January 2020. Since a Tirthankara statue was installed
in this temple premises, had the chance of visiting this temple. This is one of
the village guarding deity under the
control of a private group.
Presiding deity : Sri Gangai Amman
Some of the salient
features of this temple are....
The temple is facing
east with a sanctum sanctorum and a
mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is of two part in which the presiding deity
Gangai Amman is on the right side and the procession deity is on the left side.
There are many stucco
images of Amman, Shiva are on the
parapet wall of the sanctum sanctorum and mandapam. The images includes Dhanalakshmi,
Arthanareeswarar, Karumariamman, Veeralakshmi, Uma Maheswarar, Shiva Vinayagar,
Sankara Narayanar, Kailasanathar, Santhana Lakshmi, Mahishasuramardini,
Samayapurathamman, Sakthivel, Durga, Samundeeswari, Adhiparasakthi,
Gnanapazham, Rajarajeswari, Meenakshi, Kamakshi, Adhiparasakthi, Om Sakthi and
Hanuman. The images are looks cute.
Annual festival in
the month of Margazhi will be conducted with Temple car procession. Since the
presiding deity is a Village God, who guards this area / Village, Chicken and
Goats are sacrificed in this temple. It was told the Jain Tirthankara's
sannadhi, which is an integral part of the temple kept closed. The temple is
believed to be more than 300 years old.
Since this is a
village deity the sanctum grill will be kept closed with a grill and can have
the darshan at any time.

TO REACH:
This Gangai Amman Temple
is about 1.5 KM from Ambur Bus Stand. Ambur is on the Vellore to Krishnagiri,
Salem, Dharmapuri bus route.
Ambur is 40 KM from
Tirupattur, 60 KM from Vellore and 180 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway
station is Ambur.
