LEGEND:
As per the legend, in the process of distribution
of “Amrita” churned from the milk ocean, to the Devas, the Demon Swarnabanu
took the form of a Deva standing in between Suryan and Chandran, received and
drank. When this was complained by Suryan and Chandran, Vishnu chopped the head
of Swarna Banu. Since the demon drank the amirth, the head transformed with
snake tail and the body had transformed with Snake hood. To get rid of this
they came to earth, created a pond and worshiped lord Shiva. Pleased by their
devotion Lord Shiva gave them the position of Raghu and Kethu. Hence this
temple is called as Rahu, Ketu and also a pitru dosha Nivarthi sthalam.
