Sri Kailasanadhar Temple (Kethu Sthalam), அருள்மிகு கைலாசநாதர் திருக்கோயில் (கேதுதலம்), Rajapathy/இராஐபதி, Thoothukudi District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to the Sri Kailasanathar Temple at Rajapathy was a part of the “Temples and Heritage Sites of Thoothukudi District Visit” on 15th February 2025. This Sri Kailasanathar temple is the 8th sthalam of Nava Kailaya temples on the banks of the river Thamirabarani. Also called "Then Kalahasthi" and a Ketu parihara sthalam.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 7-tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, dwajasthambam, and Rishabam are after the Rajagopuram. Dwarapalakas, Vinayagar, and Balamurugan are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is a little big on a round avudaiyar. In koshtam Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Durgai.

In praharam, 63 var, Sekkizhar, Kalathi Vinayagar, Sri Kalatheeswarar, Nalvar, Adhi Kailasanathar, Kalatheeswarar, Chandikeswarar, Soundarya Nayagi, Navagrahas, Nava Kailaya Lingas, Adikara Nandhi, Suryan, and Chandran.

Ambal is in a separate temple facing east on the left side (North) of the Moolavar Temple. Ambal is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, and maha mandapam. The total temple was reconstructed in recent years with bricks. The sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam and pada bandha adhistanam. The adhistanam consists of jagathy, threepatta kumudam, and pattikai.  The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are of Brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam kudam and pushpa pothyal. The prastaram is of simple valapi and kapotam with nasi kudus. The superstructure vimanam is of 2 talas with nagara sigaram.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple belongs to the Pandya period and was reconstructed in recent years. (2010)

The Rajagopuram was constructed, and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 14th June 2019.


LEGENDS
This Sri Kailasanathar temple is the 8th temple of the Nava Kailaya temples. It is believed that Ketu worshipped Shiva of this temple, hence called "Then Kalahasthi" and a Ketu parihara sthalam.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Pournami, Mavasya, Rahu & Ketu peyarchi day.

Parihara poojas are offered for Ketu dosha once every Sunday.  

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open from 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and from 16.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

The village Rajapathy is on the south bank of the River Thamirabarani and opposite Eral, 7.5 km from Mukkani (on the Thoothukudi - Thiruchendur Road), 4 km from North Authoor, 30 km from Thoothukudi, and 18 km from Thiruchendur.

The nearest Railway station is Thiruchendur.
