Sri Karivaradharaja Perumal Temple, Kolumam, near Udumalpet, Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu.

10th September 2017.
I had planned to attend a meeting at our Kula Theivam Sri Veeramathi Amman’s temple, Talkuni, near Gobichettipalayam, on 10th September 2017 in connection with Kumbhabhishekam. The previous day, the 09th of September, being a second Saturday, I thought of visiting some of the heritage sites around Udumalpet. Three of my friends from Erode and Salem also joined us at Udumalpet.

This heritage visit was a mixture of Temples, Rock Art, Jain’s cave, and Hero & Sati stones around Udumalpet of Kongu Region, which was once ruled by Kumanan, one of the "Kadai Ezhu Vallalkal" ), which was led by Mr Sadasivam ( Then Kongu Sadasivam, who has a rich experience in heritage sites and also he was involved in excavation of Kodumanal, along with Archaeology Department personnel ). The temples we visited are on the banks of the Amaravati river. As per the legend,  the Kongu Chozha King Veera Rajendran had constructed seven temples on the banks of Amaravathi river, since he got the Graha dosha when a solar eclipse happened on his birth date. The construction of these temples is Pariharam for the cause of dosha.

Sri Karivaradharaja Perumal temple is at the entrance of Kolumam Village facing east. The temple was built during Kongu Chozha Veera Rajendran's Period ( 1207 CE to 1256 CE).  It was also told that the original statues were stolen when the temple was under the control of two families of that Village with a dispute. HR & CE Department had taken control of the temple. During our visit, the temple was closed and we could see only the inscriptions on the adhistanam of the front mandapam.
