This
is one of the Shiva & Vishnu temples constructed during 13th
century by Kongu Chozha King Veera Rajendran ( 1207 CE to 1256 CE ) on the banks of river Amaravathi to get rid of
the Kiraka dosham ( a Solar eclipse happened on his birth day ).
Moolavar : Sri Choleeswarar or Sri Thandaveswarar
Consort : Sri Brahan Nayaki

This
temple is facing east with a mottai gopuram & an entrance arch on the south side. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Rishabam are immediately
after the entrance arch.
In
the outer prakaram sannadhi for Vinayagar, Agnisar, Chandikeswarar, Kala
Bairavar, Navagrahas, Shanieswarar, Suryan and Naalvar.
Amman
is in a separate temple facing the same direction of moolavar. A Thavvai panel
is installed in front of Ambal temple. Sabha mandapam is in an elevated level
with steps to climb.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha
mandapam. In sanctum koshtam Dakshinamurthy and Durgai.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The
13th century inscriptions are found around sanctum walls, kumudam
and sabha mandapam adhishtanam kumudam also. The inscriptions mainly speaks
about the donations given to the temples.

The
temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 16.00 hrs to
20.00 hrs

Kolumam
is about 20 KM from Udumalpet and bus is available from Udumalpet.
