Sri Beemeswarar Temple, Omandur, Tindivanam, Viluppuram District, Tamil Nadu.

28th April 2019.
After completing Irumbai Sri Mahakaleswarar’s darshan, one of the Thevaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam, we decided to start our return journey to Chennai. On the way, visit this old Sri Bemeeswarar Shiva Temple at Omandur.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple faces west with an entrance arch with a mandapam on the south. Balipeedam and Rishabam in a mandapam are on the west side. In the sanctum, Moolavar is 6 feet on a round avudayar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma, and Durgai. In the mandapam sannadhi for Chandran Suryan, Adalvallan, and Urchavars.

In the praharam Vara Siddhi Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Nagars, Ambal Balambigai (Facing east), Navagrahas, and Chandikeswarar.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, artha mandapam, and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum is on pada bandha adhistanam with three patta kumudam. The pilasters are Vishnu kantha pilasters with naga bandham square base, kalasam, thadi, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai, veerakandam, and poo mottu pothyals. The prastaram consists of valapi, kapotam with nasi kudus, and viyyalavari. A three-tier nagara-vesra vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum.
 

INSCRIPTIONS:
As per the inscriptions, this temple was built during the Chozha King Rajarajan-I, in the 11th century. Renovations were carried out during the Vijayanagara Nayaks period, and 15th to 16th-century inscriptions are found on the kumudam.

LEGENDS
It was believed that one of the Pancha Pandavas, Beema, worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple and got back his kingdom. Hence, Lord Sri Bemeeswara will bless the devotees to get back their lost ones.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open from 07.00 hrs to 10 hrs, and the evening is unpredictable. Devotees are advised to contact before visiting, during evening hours.

HOW TO REACH
The Omandur is about 1.5 km off, Omandur Bus stop on Manamthi Koot Road & Chennai to Nagapattinam Highway.

The temple is about 10 km from Tindivanam Railway Station and 30 km from Pondicherry.
