Maha Shivaratri 2020 – Kanchipuram  Shiva Temples  Visit- 20

The visit to this Masathan Thali Eswarar  Temple on West Raja St, Periya Kanchipuram was a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21^st February 2020. After Sri Airavateswarar Temple’s Visit, our next destination was to this temple.

 

The 18^th Century Sivagnana Swamigal  had written this temple’s sthala purana in Kanchi puranam. The sthala purana is associated with Churning of Milk ocean to get the Amrita and the process of cheating the Asuras through Mohini avatharam by Sri Vishnu. Out of 36 poems 3 are connected to other temples of Kanchipuram. The three songs of the sthala purana is reproduced as given below...

அறுசீர்க்கழி நெடிலாசிரிய விருத்தம்

நறைகொப் புளிக்கும் நறும் பொகுட்டு நளின வாழ்க்கைப் புத்தேளைச்

சிறையிற் புகுத்தும் பெருமானார் குமர கோட்டச் சிறப்புரைத்தாம்

நிறையப் பூத்த மலர்ப்பொதும்பர் நீடும தற்குத் தென்திசைக்கண்

பாற்கடல் கடைந்த போது தோன்றிவயை: சேட்டையணங்கு – மூதேவி;

திரு -இலக்குமி; மணி- சிந்தாமணி; ஆன் - காமேதனு;

தெய்வமகளிர்- அரம்பையர்கள்; மருத்துவர்- தேவவைத்தியர்;

நாற்கோட்டு மதமா- ஐராவதெமன்னும் யானை.

இன்னும் கவுத்துவம் முதலியன.

Some of the important details are...

This is not a formal temple, but it is a carpentry Shop. The original temple was believed to be built during 8th to 9th Century Pallava Period and same was survived till 18th century. Years passed the temple was not maintained and dilapidated. It was told that few years before there was a mandapa around this Shiva Linga. But now there is no temple or Mandapa.

TEMPLE TIMINGS

Since there is no formal temple and kept in a carpentry shop and can have darshan at any time.

HOW TO REACH:

The temple is about 1.0 KM from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 1.5 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 28.0 KM from Arakkonam and 68 KM from Chennai.

Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
