This
Srinivasa Perumal Temple is on a small / tiny hill at Medavakkam, like
Tirupati, a KM away from the Medavakkam Junction. Hence this temple is called as Mela Tirupati. Devotees considers this
temple as equivalent to Tirupati Balaji temple.

Some
of the Salient features of this temple are…The
temple is facing east with Two entrance
arches, of one is one the Velachery to Tambaram Main road and the other one is
at the base. From the hill base the path to the temple is sloppy / ramp with 14
steps. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Garudan are in front of the mukha
mandapam. Moolavar Sri Srinivasa Perumal is little shorter similar to Tirupati
Balaji holding Sangu & Chakra in the upper hands and lower hands are in
abhaya and kati hastam. The moolavar is believed to be of
swayambhu. Utsava Murti Arulvanna Perumal is with his consorts Sridevi and
Bhoodevi are in front of moolavar. The
other utsava murtis are Lakshmi Narasimhar, Santana Gopalan, Kalinga Nardanar
and Krishna.
In
Praharam, Garuda is opposite to Moolavar Sannidhi, Bhakta Anjaneya as Anugraha Anjaneya
is opposite to Padmasani Thayar sannidhi, Ramar Paduka opposite to Andal
sannidhi, Adi Varahar is in standing posture holding Sangu & Chakra in the
upper hands and lower hands are in abhaya hastam and Kati hastam ( believed to
be of swayambhu ), Yoga Narasimhar ( Both are facing north ), Sudharsanar is with
multi arm in the pose of moving forward & on the back side Yoga Narasimhar, Pattabhi Ramar with Sita, Lakshmana & Hanuman and Venugopalar.
ARCHITECTURE The
Temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum,
ardha mandapam. On both sides of the ardha mandapam, sannidhis are for
Sri Padmasani Thayar ( In sitting posture with 4 hands in abhaya varada hastam
) and Andal. An Ekathala Dravida Vimana is over the main sanctum sanctorum. Stucco
images of Hayagreevar, Narasimhar, Varahar and Maha Vishnu are in the Greevam. Stucco
images of Garudan is on the 4 corners of the greevam. Ekathala Nagara style
Vimanas are also constructed on Sri Padmasini Thayar and Andal sannidhi.
The
Adhisthana is not followed any of architecture styles. Two Small balipeedas are
on the back side corners of the adhishtanam. A Pillared mukha mandapam is in-front of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Ceiling of the
Mukha mandapam has the bas reliefs of Fishes and Snake with Sun & Moon.
This represents the Solar and Lunar eclipse.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONSThere
are some traces of 16th – 17th Century Vijayanagara
period inscriptions found on the west
and north wall of sanctum sanctorum. Hence the original may be existed before
16th Century. During Vijayanagara period Shiva and Vishnu temples
were constructed in and around Medavakkam. A Shiva Temple at Medavakkam has the
Vijayanagara period architectural features
and inscriptions. The original temple was reconstructed after completely
dismantled and reconstructed after the stones are numbered with Tamil numbers.
Jeernodhara maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 06th March 2003 and in the
year 2015.
The
Road side and the Hill base entrance arches are built in 2006 and inaugurated
by the Tambaram MLA SR Raja, on 18th August 2006.
LEGENDSSrinivasa
Perumal is very much similar to Tirupati Balaji, but shorter in height. Hence,
it is believed that, those who couldn’t go and offer prayers at Tirupati Balaji
temple can offer at this Mela Tirupati Srinivasa Perumal temple. The devotees
follows the procedure of worshiping the moolavar after worshiping Adi Varaha
Perumal, similar to Tirupati.
POOJAS AND
CELEBRATIONSPoojas
are conducted as per Pancharatra agama. Apart from regular Poojas special
poojas are conducted on Kalyanotsavam in the month Panguni ( March – April ),
Garuda Utsavam in the month Purattasi 3rd Saturday ( September –
October ), Pavithrotsavam in the month Karthigai ( November – December ), Vaikunda
Ekadasi in the month Margazhi ( December – January ), English New Year day and
Tamil New Year day in the month Chithirai ( April – May ), Rama Navami,
Gokulashtami, Navaratri, Deepavali, Purattasi Saturdays, Hanuman Jayanthi and all important Vaishnava functions.

temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 10.30 hrs and 17.00 hrs to
20.00 hrs.
