Sri Sathya Varadaraja Perumal Temple / ஸ்ரீ சத்ய வரதராஜ பெருமாள் கோயில், Arumbakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Sathya Varadaraja Perumal Temple at Arumbakkam was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu and Amman Temples Visit” - in Anna Nagar, Arumbakkam and Mogappair, on 16th October 2022..


There are many Shiva, Maha Vishnu and Amman Temples built on the banks of river Cooum and this is one of the Maha Vishnu as Sathya Varadaraja Perumal Temple at Arumbakkam. This temple is believed to be an abhimana kshetram for vaishnavite devotees.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with a 3 Tier Rajagopuram. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Garudan are after the Rajagopuram. Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of sanctum Sanctorum.  Moolavar is in standing posture with Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Moolavar Sri Sathya Varadaraja Perumal is holding prayoga chakra and conch in the upper hands and lower right hand is Pataka hastam. This symbolizes that, Perumal is calling his devotees and bless them.

In the inner praharam Perundevi Thayar is in a separate sannidhi on the right side of moolavar and Andal is on the left side.  Alwars are also in the inner praharam. The paramapatha vasal is just opposite to Andal sannidhi.

In the outer praharam Hanuman, Chakkarathalwar, Perumal’s Padam, Sudarsana, Venugopalan, Manavala Mamunigal, Ananda Sayana Perumal, Kothanda Ramar, Sita with Lakshmana.  Vinayagar and Vishnu Durgai are in the inner side of the Rajagopuram facing moolavar.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The Sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam. A 3 tier brick Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu. The Thayar Sannidhi and Andal sannidhis are also with Nagara Vimanas.

The Venugopala sannidhi is constructed in dravida style from adhistanam to sigaram, on a padma peetam. Manavala Mamunigal sannidhi is built with eka tala nagara Vimanam.

The Maha mandapam Pillars has the stucco images of Alwars, and Maha Vishnu’s various 10 avatars.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple is believed to be of 750 years old. The present temple was reconstructed during recent years.

Ashta bandhana maha samprokshanam was conducted as per pancharatra agama on 07th June 1990.

Vahana mandapam was sponsored by L Nammalwar Naidu, and P K Ramakrishna Naidu and many devotees and declared open on 05th October 2003.

Thiruther / Temple Chariot mandapam was constructed by Tamil Nadu kamma naidu mahajana Sangam, on 27th August 2006. 

The Rajagopuram was constructed and maha samprokshanam was conducted on 11th September 2008.

The Front Alwars maha mandapam was constructed by many sponsors and declared open on 12th May 2013.  Datho Kadiresan, a leading Industrialist from Malaysia participated as a special guest during opening ceremony.  Mukha mandapam Dasavatara and ashta Lakshmi stucco images are sponsored by D. Padmavathy Sundararaman and D. Sundararaman.

Sri Venugopala Krishna's sannidhi was constructed and maha samprokshanam was conducted on 10th February 2014.




LEGENDS

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Regular poojas as per Pancharatra agama, special poojas are conducted on Pavithrotsavam, Brahmotsavam, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Krishna jayanthi, Rama Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi, etc,.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.30 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

The temple is about 260 meters off from Panchali Amman Temple on Vellore – Chennai Highway or Bangalore – Chennai Highway, 3.9 KM from Koyambedu bus terminus, 7.4 KM from Chennai Central.
