The
Visit to this Shri Aadhiswarar Digambar Jain Temple at Melapazhandai was a, was
a part of Uzhavarapani at Kovilampoondi
Jain Temple organised by the Tamil Jains, Ahimsa walk Group
on 7th February 2021. This Jain Temple on the south side bank
of River Cheyyar.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are…
The
Jinalaya is facing east with and entrance arch. Stucco images of Adinathar with
Chamaratharis are on the entrance arch. Dwajasthambam, manasthambam and
balipeedam are after the entrance. Main deity Adinathar is in sitting posture.
Adinath looks differently, ie bald head with elongated earlobes. And also
the mukkudai. Flower motif are in prabhai. Chamaratharis are shown on both
sides. The lanchanam, Rishabam is at the base.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTION
The
Inscription at the base records that the image was gifted by Appandai Nayinar.
The style of the inscription belongs to 19th to 20th
Century. It was claimed that the
original temple was constructed during Chozha period and no inscription found
in this temple.
ARCHITECTURE
The
Jinalaya consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a open mukha
mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam and an ekatala vesara
Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Tirthankaras images are in the greeva
koshtams.

from Arcot, 50 KM from Kanchipuram, 59 KM from Vellore, 75 KM from
Tiruvannamalai and 135 KM from Chennai.
