Shri Arasiramani Vellutru Perumal Kovil / ஶ்ரீ அரசிராமணி வெள்ளுற்று பெருமாள் கோவில், Arasiramani, Salem district, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Arasiramani Vellutru Perumal Kovil at Arasiramani was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman Temples and Heritage sites from Komarapalayam to Edappadi Visit” – On 19th May 2024. This temple is away from human habitation near the hill. Thanks to ல மா செல்வராசு, one of my FB friends of Komarapalayam for taking me to all these places.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east without any compound wall. Stucco images of Krishna and Cows on both sides are on the top of Mukha mandapam. A Deepa sthambam  or garuda thoon and Anjaneyar are in front of the Temple. In Sanctum sanctorum, Sri Maha Vishnu as Narayanar and and Sridevi and Bhudevi. Two stones are in the mandapam, under worship with thiruman.

Vinayagar as Thumbigai Alwar, Hanuman, and a small spring with steps on 4 sides are in the outer praharam.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an adhistanam, Bhitti, prastaram and Vimanam. Vaishnava-related stucco images are on the Vimanam.

A spring or a well is on the north side of the temple with steps on all four sides.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple belongs to 100 to 200 years old. No further details are available about this temple.

LEGENDS
Since the temple is away from human habitation, why this temple was constructed at this place is not known.

The Spring on the north side of the temple overflows during rainy and nonrainy seasons. It was said that the spring didn’t dry up even during the hot summer. From where the water comes is not known. Hence the Maha Vishnu is called Vellutru Perumal.

Oru kala pooja is conducted and no special poojas are conducted.

The temple is about 14 KM from Edappadi, 28 KM from Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple, 30 KM from Sankagiri, and 43 KM from Erode.
